bookshelves: oh-dear

so, we are having the event for this book at our store tonight. the number of people calling up to ask if steve jobs will also be present to sign is staggering. in other words, "i care enough about steve jobs to want to read a 600+ page book about him, but i am somehow unaware that he is deceased."

is what i hope. the alternative is ghoulish and i do not want to entertain it.

TK421 If I were you, I might start thinking about those ghoulish thoughts...yikes

Wendy Darling Haaaaah. If anyone comes up and asks you this question in person, please take photos.

karen i really should cultivate a "customer wall of shame"

you have no idea the shit i hear....

message 4: by Heidi (new)

Heidi that is too funny! I can only imagine the smart commentary running in your head!

message 5: by karen (new) - added it

karen it is sorrowful, bewildered commentary

Wendy Darling karen wrote: "you have no idea the shit i hear...."

I do know. I used to work in a B&N, don't forget!

Jennifer (formerly Eccentric Muse) i think you should set up a section in the RA group called "the shit I hear." I'd love to read it and be sorrowful and bewildered with you.

message 8: by karen (new) - added it

karen hmm - maybe i should just start a writing segment for that - i wouldn't want to clutter the group up... i has to be professional, right?

Heidi karen wrote: "hmm - maybe i should just start a writing segment for that - i wouldn't want to clutter the group up... i has to be professional, right?"

I would read it ..what would you call it ? the rantings and ravings of......a girl with a paper to write barely hanging on to sanity maybe? or a crafter who is making christmas from cat fur? or a quick griller of grilled cheese?

message 10: by karen (new) - added it

karen tales from the book factory - by someone who should know better.

message 11: by CRO (new)

CRO 10 years ago - I was involved in a theatrical production of Diary of Anne Frank - and...yes.. there were many people who asked if she would be speaking at the event...and I would totally read your "the shit I hear" writing segment:)

message 12: by karen (new) - added it

karen wow. that is even worse....

message 13: by karen (new) - added it

karen walter isaacson was here signing. he is still alive.

orrrr isss heeeee????

we got pastries, so it wasn't the worst.

Joshua Nomen-Mutatio Tell them he'll be there. They deserve to be disappointed in public.

message 15: by karen (new) - added it

karen and mocked. they need so much mocking.

message 16: by Greg (new)

Greg I was under the impression until late last week that this was a memoir written by Steve Jobs, I'd even told some customers that it was written by Jobs, finished and already slated to be released before he died. I'm very aware of the books in my section.

message 17: by karen (new) - added it

karen oh, greg.

message 18: by Greg (new)

Greg I didn't think there could possibly be an event for this book and thought the man who called asking about an event for the book was fucking retarded. Opps.

message 19: by karen (new) - added it

karen you have just made my "shit i hear" wall.

message 20: by Greg (new)

Greg Also for the record, I never thought that Einstein or Franklin wrote the books about them that Walter Isaacson penned. So I'm not totally stupid.

(will someone now please take my lead position away from me, shot me in the head and put me out of my misery? See I'm totally inept at my job!)

message 21: by Natalie (last edited Nov 11, 2011 01:20AM) (new)

Natalie Apparently a customer called and asked if Steve Jobs was autographing his book at the event. When the bookseller informed him that Mr. Jobs had died his response was: so it's just a q&a? I think if we hosted a q&a with zombie Steve Jobs it would have been far more interesting.

message 22: by karen (new) - added it

karen fantastic. just fantastic.

message 23: by Edward (new)

Edward I can't possibly believe that people buy this book and read it, too me it just seems like a last apple thing to buy and have, like a thing to show-off.
idk, so many of my friends who don't read went out and bought this one

message 24: by karen (new) - added it

karen but it doesn't even have apps!

message 25: by Sandra15 (new)

Sandra15 Yeah btw, even though it is hilarious and unthinkable, in reality many people are clueless about notorious facts.

message 26: by karen (new) - added it

karen we are living in an internet age!! even i am aware of things, and i am oblivious to nearly everything.

message 27: by Sandra15 (new)

Sandra15 But you use your brain and you READ. For some hard to explain reason people often confuse me with some individuals who barely have any resemblance to me. I am a physician and believe me, the names I've heard of some medications are beyond funny. Sometimes I can't even guess what drugs people refer to when they coin some name on their own. In my ward there is a clear sign STAFF ONLY on one of the doors. I think that door is favourite for just about everyone. People don't read and they don't pay attention. Not sure why, though.

message 28: by karen (new) - added it

karen wow. and i assume you are not hundreds of years old. this is remarkable.

message 29: by Christine (new)

Christine Gaeta1 wrote: "It was a typo in the local Cambridge paper that no one caught(including me) although I distinctly remember reading "Queen Elizabeth I" in the article headline and thinking nothing of it. A friend ..."

Hardly surprising...my High School world history teacher tried to tell us Queen Elizabeth I had nine kids. I politely informed him (after class as to not embarrass him publicly) that he had confused Elizabeth with Victoria. He refused to admit his error and assigned me a report on the British monarchy for disagreeing with him.

message 30: by Snow (new)

Snow thats just sad that they dont know hes dead
i mean it was all over the news

message 31: by karen (new) - added it

karen oh, man - i hope that paper was full of factual errors!

Melissa Andrews this [the original comment] really made me laugh. it's sad, but i laughed nonetheless! :-)

message 33: by karen (new) - added it

karen sorrowful laughter... the best kind..

message 34: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine ha hilarious

message 35: by Sandy (new)

Sandy Did you get similar queries for that John Adams book, is what I really wanna know....

message 36: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine I know they did a tribute event to some dead poet and people were asking if he was going to come sign. I want to say it was yeats but I'm not 100%.

message 37: by Jasmine (new)

Jasmine

message 38: by karen (new) - added it

karen i think you are right. it was yeats.for that annual yeats day they have that no one ever comes to.

Jason I'm surprised you don't have a customer wall of shame! I think everyone in retail and/or customer service should invest in one.

message 40: by karen (last edited May 24, 2012 05:47AM) (new) - added it

karen i know. we should start a notebook. let's do that today.

Jason ...a new "writing" section for your profile, maybe? that would be fantastic!

message 42: by karen (new) - added it

karen good call. we will start with a notebook, and when there is sufficient content, i will post it.

Jason Brilliant. :)
