ANNUAL REPORT. STATE OF MICHIGAN, To the Legislature of the State of Michigan: In accordance with the law, I have the honor to submit the official report of the business transacted by the department of the Attorney General for the fiscal year commencing July 1, 1898, and ending June 30, 1899. Like my predecessor, I have a large increase of business to report. New laws and new duties for the various State departments and institutions are consequent upon each session of the legislature, additional to the immediate pressing demands during the session. My report is carefully arranged under Schedules "A" to "K," thus facilitating reference to the entire subject matter. I have also caused two complete indexes to be made, one containing a table of all the cases which have come before the department during the year, and the other being an elaborate index of the subject matter. The classification, is as follows: SCHEDULE A Contains a synopsis of the official powers and duties of the Attorney General. SCHEDULE B Contains a statement of all criminal cases brought to the Supreme Court on exception, writ of error, certiorari and habeas corpus, whether disposed of or pending, in which the Attorney General has appeared, or which are of general interest to those entrusted with the administration of the criminal laws of the State. SCHEDULE C Contains a list of mandamus cases, certiorari and other proceedings, commenced by the Attorney General in behalf of the State, or commenced by other parties in which the State was directly interested. |
