Williams (chairman) presiding. Present: Senators Williams, Randolph, Javits, and Mondale. Committee staff present: Stewart E. McClure, staff director; Robert E. Carey to be General Counsel of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. This position was created by the Equal Employment Opportunity Act of 1972. In view of the great involvement of members of this committee in that legislation, we are naturally most interested in the person who will be filling this key position. Mr. Carey comes to us from Chicago, Ill., where he has been in private law practice since 1961. Prior to that, he served with the Justice Department for several years. A copy of Mr. Carey's biography will be included in our hearing record at this point.
