ZIP Code (41-45) EXECUTIVE OFFICE OF THE PRESIDENT OFFICIAL BUSINESS POSTAGE AND FEES PAID OFFICE OF MANAGEMENT AND BUDGET OFFICE OF MANAGEMENT AND BUDGET STATISTICAL POLICY AND MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS DIVISION WASHINGTON, D.C. 20503 HOW TO USE THE CATALOG HOW THE CATALOG INFORMATION IS ORGANIZED • • INDEXES - The "blue pages" at the front of the Catalog provide three different types of indexes to help you identify Federal programs that provide the type of assistance you are seeking. These are: A Functional Index which lists programs by broad purposes such as education, housing, health, community development, etc. A Subject Index which provides a detailed listing of specific types of assistance by topics, categories of services, selected beneficiaries, and other common usage terms. A Program Numbers and Titles by Agency Index which lists all programs in the Catalog administered by each Federal agency. PROGRAM DESCRIPTIONS - The center portion of the Catalog contains detailed descriptions of the 1049 Federal Domestic Assistance Programs. The program descriptions are listed in the same order as in the Program Numbers and Titles by Agency Index. • LOCAL CONTACTS - The last section of the Catalog provides addresses of Regional and Local Federal offices that can be contacted for more information on the programs and application procedures. HOW TO FIND PROGRAMS THAT PROVIDE DESIRED ASSISTANCE • • Refer to the Subject Index to determine whether the specific Federal assistance desired is listed. If it is listed, use the program number(s) identified to locate the appropriate program descriptions. Each of these program descriptions also identify related programs which may provide the desired assistance. If not found under the specific topical heading, continue to search under synonymous topical headings or beneficiary categories. If you are not seeking a specific form of Federal assistance but are interested in identifying the general nature of assistance available in a broad area of interest such as education, community development, consumer protection, etc. refer to the Functional Index Summary. The summary provides a listing of the general types of assistance available in each functional area of interest. The summary also provides a reference to the appropriate page of the detailed Functional Index which lists all programs that provide that type of Federal assistance. If you know the name of the Federal agency that administers the program in which you are interested, or you are interested in the various types of programs administered by specific agencies - refer to the Program Numbers and Titles by Agency Index. • Since the Functional Index Summary is only two pages in length, it provides a convenient means for "browsing" and obtaining an overall perspective on Federal Domestic Assistance Programs. |
