C. EXAMINATION OF LIVING BACTERIA Put a drop of some mixed culture of bacteria on a slide. Cover with a cover-glass and examine with high power: Note 1. Number of different forms. 2. Size as compared with sizes of other cells, previously studied. 3. Can any cell structures be distinguished? 4. Motile forms. What is the rate and character of the movement? 5. Sketch sufficiently enlarged to show form and structure. D. PATHOGENIC ORGANISMS Examine the prepared slides under oil-emersion objective and sketch as many of the following disease organisms as you can find time for: 1. Bacterium tuberculosis in human tissues. Note grouping and relation to body cells. 2. Bacterium anthraeis. Note spores and grouping of bacteria. 3. Bacterium diphtheria. Note granules and compare with ordinary sore-throat organisms. 4. Streptococcus pyogenes. Compare with staphylococci. 5. Spirillum of Asiatic cholera. 6. Organisms in pus. Note pus cells and relation to bacteria. 7. Spirochate in blood from case of relapsing fever. 8. Spirochate of Syphillis in human tissues. Note relation to tissues. 9. Malarial parasite in human blood. If possible note both young and mature forms. Observe nucleus and note relations to red blood cells. 10. Trypanosomes in blood. Note two kinds of nuclei; the flagellum; the undulating membrane, etc. 0 |
