PROBLEM 46

PLANNING A RURAL SCHOOL

Problem: Superintendent Wilkins of Hartman County, N. K., desires to present before a body of district trustees the plans for a new four-room community school. He has secured floor plans from a foundation interested in the improvement of rural schools.

The choice lies between the plans shown in Diagrams 1 and 2. After careful consideration of the plans, Superintendent Wilkins decides to present No. 2 as his recommendation.

1. List the advantages of both plans.

2. Do you agree with the choice made? Why?

3. Are there any disadvantages in either plan? Any faults which should be corrected?

4. Do you accept the width of these classrooms as desirable? The size of the stage? The location of doors? The location of cloakrooms? The amount of blackboard?

5. If asked the cost of construction by the Board of Education, how would you estimate it?
