15 And Kattath, and Nahallal, and Shimron, and Idalah, and Beth-lehem: twelve cities with their villages.

16 This is the inheritance of the children of Zebulun, according to their families, thefe cities with their villages.

17 And the fourth lot came out to Iffachar, for the children of Iffachar according to their families.

18 And their border was toward Jezreel, and Chefulloth, and Shunem,

19 And Hapharaini, and Shihon, and Anaharath,

20 And Rabbith, and Kifhion, and Abez, 21 And Remeth, and En-gannim, and Enbaddab, and Beth-pazzez;

22 And the coaft reacheth to Tabor, and Shahazimah, and Beth-themesh, and the outgoings of their border were at Jordan: fixteen cities with their villages.

23 This is the inheritance of the tribe of the chil tren of Ifachar, according to their families, the cities and their villages.

24 And the fifth lot came out for the tribe of the children of Ather, according to their families.

25 And their border was Helkath, and Hall, and Beten, and Achthaph,

26 And Alammelech, and Amad, and Mifheal; and reached to Carmel weftward, and to Shihor-libnath,

27 And turneth toward the fun-rifing to Beth-lagon, and reacheth to Zebulun, and to the valley of Jiphthah-el toward the northfide of Beth-emek, and Neiel, and goeth out to Cabul on the left hand

28 And Hebron, and Rehob, and Hammon, ad Kanah, even unto great Zidon;

29 And then the coal turneth to Ramah, and to the trung city Tyre, and the coaft turneth to Hofah; and the outgoings there. of are at the fea, from the coaft to Achzib: 30 Ummah alfo, and Aphek, and Rehob: twenty and two cities with their villages.

31 This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Ather according to their fa milies, thefe cities with their villages.

32 The fixth lot came out to the children of Naphtali, even for the children of Naphtali according to their families.

33. And their coaft was from Heleph, from Allon to Zaanannim, and Adami, Nekeb, and Jabneel, unto Lakum; and the outgoings thereof were at jordan:

Jofua's inheritance. 34 And then the coaft turneth weftward to Aznoth-tabor, and goeth out from thence to Hukkok, and reacheth to Zebulun on the fouth fide, and reacheth to Ather on the weft fide, and to Judah upon Jordan toward the fun-rifing.

35 A the fenced cities are Ziddim, Zer, and Hammath, Rakkath, and Cinnereth, 36 And Adamah, and Ramah, and Hazor, 37 And Keueth, and Edrei, and En-hazor, 38 And Iron, and Migdal-el, Horem, and Beth-anath, and Beth-themeth: nineteen cities with their villages.

46 And Me-jarkon, and Rakkon, with the border before Japho.

47 And the coaft of the children of Dan went out too little for them; therefore the children of Dan went up to fight against Lethem, and took it, and Imote it with the edge of the fword, and potfested it, and dwelt therein, and called Lethem, Dan, after the name of Dan their father.

48 This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families, thefe cities with their villages.

49 When they had made an end of divid ing the land for inheritance by their coafts, the children of Ifrael gave an inheritance to Joihua the fon of Nun among them:

50 According to the word of the LORD they gave him the city which he asked, even Timnath-ferah in mount Ephraim: and he built the city, and dwelt therein.

51 These are the inheritances which Eleazar the priest, and Joshua the fon of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of lfrael, divided for an inheritance by lot in Shileh before the LORD, at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. So they made an end of dividing the country. СНАР. XX.

7 And they appointed Kedeth in Galilee in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kirjath-arba, (which is Hebion) in the mountain of Judah.

8 And on the other fide Jordan, by Jericho eastward, they affigned Bezer in the wildernefs upon the plain, out of the tribe of Reuben, and Ramoth in Gilead out of the tribe of Gad, and Golan in Bafhan out of the tribe of Manasseh.

9 Thefe were the cities appointed for all the children of Ifrael, and for the ftranger that fojourneth among them, that whofoever killeth any perfon at unawares might flee thither, aud not die by the hand of the avenger of blood, until he itood before the congrega

2 And they fpake unto them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, faying, The LORD commanded by the hand of Mofes, to give us citres to dwell in, with the fuburbs thereof for Our cattle.

3 And the children of Ifrael gave unto the Levites out of their inheritance, at the commaniment of the LORD, thefe cities and their fuburbs.

4 And the lot came out for the families of the Kohathites: and the children of Aaron the priest, which were of the Levites, had by lot out of the tribe of Judah, and out of the tribe of Simeon, and out of the tribe of Benjamin, thirteen cities.

5 And the rest of the children of Kohath bad by lot out of the families of the tribe of Ephraim, and out of the tribe of Dan, and out of the half tribe of Manaffeh, ten cities.

6 And the children of Cerihon had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Ifachar, and out of the tribe of Afker, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the half-tribe of Manach in Pathan, thir.een cities.

7 The children of Merari, by their families, bad cut of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.

the father of Anak, (which city is Hebron,) in the hill-country of Judah, with the fub urbs thereof round about it.

12 But the fields of the city, and the vil lages thereof, gave they to Caleb the fon of Jephunneh, for his poffettion.

13 Thus they gave to the children of Aaron the priest Hebron with her fuburbs, ro be a city of refuge for the flayer, and Libnah with her fuburbs,

14 And Jattir with her fuburbs, and Eth temoa with her fuburbs,

15 And Holon with her fuburbs, and Debir with her fuburbs,

20 And the families of the children of Kohath, the Levites which remained of the children of Kohath, even they had the cities of their lot out of the tribe of Ephraim."

Gezer

21 For they gave them Shechem with her fuburbs ir mount Ephraim, to be a city of fuburbs,

22 And Kibzain with her fuburbs, and Beth-horon with her fuburbs: four cities.

23 And out of the tribe of Dan,Eltekeh with her fuburbs, Gibbethon with her fuburbs, 24 Afjalon with her fuburbs, Gath-rimmon with her fuburbs: four cities.

25 And out of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Tanach with her fuburbs, and Gath-rim mon with her fuburbs: two cities.

26 All the cities were ten, with their fuburbs, for the families of the children of Ko hath that remained.

27 And unto the children of Gerthon, of the families of the Levites, out of the other half-tribe of Manaffeh, they gave Golan in Bathan with her fuburbs, to be a city of re tuge for the flayer; and Beethterath with her fuburbs: two cities.

28 And out of the tribe of Iffachar, Kifhon with her fuburbs, Dabarek with her fuburbs, 29 Jarmuth with her fuburbs, En-gannim with her fuburbs: four cities.

30 And out of the tribe of Afher, Mishal with her fuburbs, Abdon with her fuburbs, 31 Helkath with her fuburbs, and Rehob with her fuburbs: four cities

35 Dimnah with her fuburbs, Nahalal with her fuburbs: four cities.

36 And out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer with her fuburbs, and Jahazah with her fuburbs, Kedemoth

39 Hethbon with her fuburbs, Jazer with her fuburbs: four cities in all.

40 So all the cities for the children of Merari, by their families, which were remain. ing of the families of the Levites, were by their lot, twelve cities.

41 All the cities of the Levites, within the poifeilion of the children of Ifrael, were forty and eight cities with their fuburbs.

42 Thefe cities were every one with their fuburbs round about them: thus were all thefe cities.

43 And the LORD gave unto Ifrael all the land which he fware to give unto their fathers: and they poffefied it, and dwelt therein.

44 And the LORD gave them reft round about, according to all that he fware unto their fathers: and there ftood not a man of all their enemies before them; the LORD deli. vered all their enemies into their hand.

45 There failed not aught of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Ifrael; all came to país.

CHA P. XXII.

1 The two tribes and half fent home: 10 they build the altar of teftimony in their journey: 16 contention thereupon. THEN Johus called the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manaffch,

2 And faid unto them, Ye have kept all that Mofes the fervant of the LORD commanded you, and have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you:

3 Ye have not left your brethren these many days unto this day, but have kept the charge of the commandment of the LORD your God.

4 And now the LORD your God hath gi ven reft unto your brethren, as he promised them: therefore now return ye, and get you unto your tents, and unto the land of your poffeffion, which Mofes the fervant of the LoxD gave you on the other fide Jordan.

5 But take diligent heed to do the commandment, and the law, which Mofes the fervant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all bis ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to ferve him with all your heart, and with all your foul.

6 So Joshua bleffed them, and fent them away: and they went unto their tents.

7 Now to the one half of the tribe of Manaffen Mofes had given poffef on in Bathan; but unto the other half thereof gave Joshua among their brethren on this fide jordan weftward. And when Joshua fent them away alfo unto their tents, then he blefied them;

8 And he spake unto them, faying, Return with much riches anto your tents, and with very much cattle, with filver, and with gold, and with brafs, and with iron, and with very much raiment: divide the spoil of your enemies with your brethren.

The altar of teftimony. naffeh, returned, and departed from the chil dren of Ifrael out of Shiloh, which is in the land of Canaan, to go unto the country of Gilead, to the land of their poffeflion, whereof they were poffeffed, according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Mofes.

10 And when they came unto the borders of Jordan, that are in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and the half-tribe of Manaffeh, built there an altar by Jordan, a great liar to fee to.

11 And the children of Ifrael heard fay, Behold, the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and the half-tribe of Ma natieh, have built an altar over-against the land of Canaan, in the borsers of Jordan, at the paffage of the children of Ifrael.

12 And when the children of irael heard of it, the whole congregation of the children of Ifrael gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up to war againfi then.

13 And the children of Ifrael fent unto the children of Reuben, and to the chil tren of Gad, and to the half-tribe of Manaffch, inte the land of Gilead, Phinehas the fon of Eleazar the priest,

14 And with him ten princes, of each chief houfe a prince throughout all the tribes of Ifrael, and each one was an head of the house of their fathers among the thoniands of lírael.

15 And they came unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half-tribe of Manaich, unto the land of

Gilead, and they (pake with them, faying,

16 Thus faith the whole congregation of the LORD, What trefpafs is this that ye have committed against the Goi of Ifrael, to turn away this day from following the LORD, in that ye have builded you an altar, that ye might rebel this day against the LORD?

17 Is the iniquity o. Peor too little for us, from which we are not cleanfe until this day, (although there was a piague in the congregation of the LORD.)

18 But that ye muit turn away this day from following the LORD? And it will be, feeing ye tebel to-day against the LORD, that to-morrow he will be wroth with the whole congregation of Ifrael.

19 Notwithstanding, if the land of your poffeffion be unclean, then pafs ye over unte the land of the poffettion of the LORD, where in the LORD's tabernacle dwelleth, and take poffeifion among us: but rebel not against the LORD, nor rebel againit us, in building you an altar befide the altar ofthe LORD OUT God.

20 Did not Achan the fon of 7erah commit a trefpafs in the accurfed ching, and wrath fell on all the congregation of Ifrael? and that man perihed not alone in his iniquity,

21 Then the children of Reuben, and the children of Gad, and the halt-tribe of Mnaffeh, anfwered, and faid unto the heads ( the thousands of Ifrael,

22 The LORD God of gods, the LORD God of gods, he knoweth, and Ifrael he that know, if it be in rebellion, or if ia tranf grethon against the LORD, (fave to hot this day,)

Fofhua's exhortation

JOSHUA.
If to offer peace-offerings thereon, let the
LORD himself require it:

24 And if we have not rather done it for fear of this thing, faying, In time to come your children might fpeak unto our children, faying, What have ye to do with the LORD God of Ifrael?

25 For the LORD hath made Jordan a bor. der between us and you; ye children of Reuben and children of Gad, ye have no part in the LORD: fo thall your children make our children ceafe from fearing the LORD. 26 Therefore we faid, Let us now prepare to build us an altar, not for burnt-offering, nor for facrifice:

27 But that it may be a witnefs between us and you, and our generations after us, that we might do the fervice of the LORD before him with our burnt-offerings, and with our facrifices,, and with our peace-offerings; that your children may not fay to our children in time to come, Ye have no part in the LORD.

28 Therefore said we, that it shall be, when they should fo fay to us, or to our generations in time to come, that we may fay again, Behold the pattern of the altar of the LORD, which our fathers made, not for burnt-offerings, nor for facrifices; but it is a witnefs between us and you.

29 God forbid that we fhould rebel against the LORL, and turn this day from following the LORD, to build an altar for burnt-offerings, for meat-offerings, or for facrifices; beude the altar of the LORD our God that is before his tabernacle.

30 And when Phinehas the priest, and the princes of the congregation, and heads of the thousands of Ifrael which were with him, heard the words that the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the children of Manaffeh fpake, it pleafed them.

31 And Phinehas the fon of Fleazar the prieft, faid unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the hildren of Manafich, This day we perceive that the LORD is among us, becaufe ye have not committed this trefpafs against the LORD: now ye have delivered the child en of Ifrael out of the hand of the LORD.

32 And Phinehas the fon of Eleazar the priest, and the princes, returned from the children of Reuben, and from the children of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, unto the land of Canaan, to the children of Ifrael, and brought them word again.

33 And the thing pleafed the children of Ifrael; and the children of Ifrael bleffed God, and did not intend to go up against them in battle, to destroy the land wherein the children of Reuben and Gad dwelt.

34 And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad called the altar Fa: for it all be a witness between us that the LORD is God. CHAP. XXIII.

Jofua's exhortation before his death, 3 by former benefits, 5 by promises, 11 and by threatenings.

AND it came to pafs, a long time after that

the LORD had given reft unto Ifrael from all their enemies round about, that Joshua waxed old and fricken in age.

before his death,

3 And ye have feen all that the LORD your God hath done unto all thefe nations becaufe of you; for the LORD your God is he that hath fought for you.

4 Behold, I have divided unto you by lot thefe nations that remain, to be an inherit ance for your tribes, from Jordan, with all the nations that I have cut off, even unto the great fea weftward.

them from before you, and drive them from 5 And the LORD your God, he hall expel out of your fight; and ye thall poffefs their land, as the LORD your God hath promifed unto you.

6 Be ye therefore very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Mofes, that ye turn not afide there. from to the right hand or to the left:

7 That ye come not among these nations, thefe that remain among you, neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor caufe to fwear by them, neither ferve them, nor bow yourfelves unto them:

8 But cleave unto the LORD your God, as ye have done unto this day.

9 For the LORD hath driven out from be fore you great nations and irong: but as for you, no man hath been able to ftand before you unto this day.

10 One man of you fhall chafe a thousand': for the LORD your God, he it is that fighteth for you, as he hath promifed you.

II Take good heed therefore unto your felves, that ye love the Lox D your God.

12 Elfe if ye do in any wife go back, and cleave unto the remnant of these nations, even thefe that remain among you, and shall make marriages with them, and go in unte them, and they to you;

13 Know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no more drive out any of thefe nations from before you; but they fhall be fnares and traps unto you, and fcourges in your fides, and thorns in your eyes, until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God hath given you.

14 And behold this day I am going the way of all the earth: and ye know in all your hearts, and in ail your fouls, that not one thing hath failed of all the good things which the LORD your God fpake concerning you; all are come to pais unto you, and not one thing hath tailed thereof.

15 Therefore it thall come to pass, that as all good things are come upon you, which the LORD your God promifed you; fo fhall the LORD bring upon you all evithings, until he have destroyed you from off this good land, which the LORD your God hath given you.

16 When ye have tranfgreffed the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, and have gone and ferved other gods, and bowed yourfelves to them; then than the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and ye thall perish quickly from off the good land which he hath given unto you.

death.

2 And Jofua called for all Ifrael, and for AND Jou gathered all the tribes of

their elders, and for their heads, and for their Janges, and for their officers, and faid unto em, I am old and fricken in age:

Ifrael to Shechem, and called for the elders of Ifrael, and for their heads, and

for

God's benefits to Ifrael.

Chap. xxiv. Fofbur's age, death, and burial, forbid that we should forfake the LORD, to ferve other gods;

for their judges, and for their officers; and they prefented themfelves before God.

2 And Joshua faid unto all the people, Thus faith the LORD God of Ifrael, Your fathers dwelt on the other fide of the flood in old time, even Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor: and they ferved other gods.

3 And I took your father Abraham from the other fide of the flood, and led him through. out all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his feed, and gave him Ifaac.

4 And I gave unto Ifaac Jacob and Ffau: and 1 gave unto Efau mount Seir to poffefs it; but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.

SI fent Mofes alfo and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did among them; and afterward I brought you out.

6 And I brought your fathers out of Egypt: and ye came unto the fea; and the Frypans pursued after your fathers with chariots and horiemen unto the Red fea.

1 And when they cried unto the LORD, he put darknefs between you and the Egyptians, and brought the fea upon them, and covered them and your eyes have feen what I have done in Egypt: and ye dwelt in the wilder. nefs a long feafou.

8 And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, which dvelt on the other fide Jordan; and they fought with you: and I gave them into your hand, that ye might poffefs their land; and I deftroyed them from before you.

9 Then Balak the fon of Zippor, king of Moab, arofe and warred againit Ifrael, and fent and called Balaam the fon of Beor to curfe you:

10 But I would not hearken unto Balaam; therefore he bleifed you ftill: fo I delivered you out of his hand.

11. And ye went over fordan, and came unto Jericho: and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorites, and the Periz. zites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgafhites, the Hivi.es, and the Jebufites; and I delivered them into your hand.

12 And I fent the hornet before you, which drave them out from before you, even the two kings of the Amorites; but not with thy fword, nor with thy bow.

13 And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cides which ye built not, and ye dwell in them: of the vineyards and olive-yards which ye planted aot do ye

"eat.

14 Now therefore fear the LORD, and ferve him in fincerity and in truth; and put away the gods which your fathers ferved on the other fide of the flood, and in Egypt; and ferve ye the LORD.

15 And if it feem evil unto you to ferve the LORD, choofe ye this day whom ye will ferve; whether the gods which your fachers ferved that were on the other fide of the flood, or the geds of the Amorites, in whofe land ye dwell: but as for me and my houfe, we will ferve the LORD.

16 And the people answered and faid, God

17 For the LORD our God, he it is that brought us up, and our fathers, out of the land of Egypt, from the houfe of bondage, and which did thofe great figns in our fight, and preferved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we paired:

18 And the LORD drave out from before us all the people, even the Amorites which dwelt in the lund: therefore will we also ferve the LORD; for he is our God.

19 And Joshua faid unto the people, Ye cannot ferve the LORD; for he is an holy God: he is a jealous God; he will not for give your tranfgreffions nor your ins.

20 If ye forfake the LORD, and serve ftrange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and confume you, after that he hath done you good.

21 And the people faid unto Joshus, Nay; but we will ferve the LORD.

22 And Joshua faid unto the people, Ye are witneffes against yourfelves that ye have cho fen you the LORD, to ferve him. And they faid, We are witneffes.

23 Now therefore put away (faid be) the ftrange gods which are among you, and ins cline your heart unto the LORD God of Ifrael.

24 And the people faid unto Joshua, The LORD our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.

25 So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and fet them a ftatute and an ordinance in Shechem

26 And Joshua wrote thefe words in the book of the law of God,and took a great ftone, and fet it up there under an oak that was by the fanctuary of the LORD.

27 And Jofhua faid unto all the people, Behold, this ftone thall be a witnefs unto us; for it hath heard all the words of the LORD, which he fpake unto us: it shall be therefore a witnefs unto you, left ye deny your God.

28 So Joshua let the people depart, every man unto his inheritance.

29 And it came to pafs after thefe things, that Joshua the fon of Nun, the fervant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.

30 And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnath-ferah, which is in mount Ephraim, on the north fide of the hill of Gaah.

31 And Ifrael ferved the Loap all the days of Jofhua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known all the works of the LORD, that he had done for Ifrael.

32 And the bones of Jofeph, which the children of Ifrael brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the fons of Hamor, the father of Shechem, for an hundred pieces of filver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Jofeph.

33 And Eleazar the fon of Aaron died, and they buried him in a hill that pertained to Phinehas his fon, which was given him in mount Ephraim.
