26 All the fouls that came with Jacob into Egypt, which came out of his loins, befides Jacob's fons wives, all the fouls were three kore and fix.

27 And the fons of Jofeph, which were borne him in Egypt, were two fouls: all the fouls of the house of Jacob, which came into Egypt, were threcicore and ten.

28¶ And he fen Judah before him unto Jofeph, to direct his face unto Gothen; and they came into the land of Gothen.

29 And Joseph made ready his chariot, and went up to meet lirael his father to Gothen, and prefented nimelt unto him: and he fell on his neck, and wept on his neck a good While.

30 And Ifrael faid unto Jofeph, Now let me die, fince I have feen thy face, becaufe thou art yet alive.

31 And Jofeph faid unto his brethren, and eato his father's houfe, I will go up, and thew Pharaoh, and fay unto him, My brethren, and my father's house, which were in the land of Canaan, are come unto me:

32 And the men are thepherds, for their trade hath been to feed cattle: and they have brought their socks, and their herds, and all that they have.

33 And it thall come to pafs, when Pharaoh fall call you, and shall fay, What is your occupation?

34 That ye thall fay, Thy fervants, trade hath been about cattle from our youth even until now, both we and alfo our iathers; that ye may dwell in the land of Gothen: tor every thepherd is an abomination unto the Egyptians.

CHA P. XLVII. 1Jofeph prefenteth five of hisbrethren, and his father, before Pharaoh: 11 he giveth them habitation and maintenance.

HEN Jofeph came and told Pharaoh, and faid, My father, and my brethren, and their flocks, and their her is, and all that they have, are come out of the land of Canaan; and, behold, they are in the land of Gothen.

2. And he took fome of his brethren, even Ave men, and presented them unto Pharaoh. 3 And Pharaoh faid unto his brethren, What is your occupation? And they faid unto Pharaoh, Thy fervants are thepherds, both we and alfo our fathers.

They faid moreover unto Pharaoh, For to fojourn in the land are we come, for thy

and brethren to Pharaoh. fervants have no pafture for their docks; for the famine is fore in the land of Canaang now therefore, we pray thee, let thy fervants dwell in the land of Gothen.

5 And Pharaoh (pake unto Joseph, saying, Thy father and thy brethren are come unto thee:

6 The land of Egypt is before thee; in the beft of the land make thy tather and brethren to dwell; in the land of Gothen let them dwell: and it thou knoweft any men of activity among them, then make them rulers over my cattle.

7 And Jofeph brought in Jacob his father, and fet him betore Pharaoh : and Jacob bleed

Pharaoh.

8 And Pharaoh faid unto Jacob, How old art thou?

9 And Jacob faid unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are an hundred and thirty years: iew and evil have the days of the years of my life been, and have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers, in the days of their pilgrimage.

10 And Jacob bleffed Pharaoh, and went out from betore Pharaoh.

11 And Jofeph placed his father and his brethren, and gave them a poffemon in the land of Egypt, in the beft of the land, in the land of Raméfes, as Pharaoh had com. manded.

12 And Jofeph nourished his father, and his brethren, and all his father's houthold, with bread, according to their tamilies.

13 And there was no bread in all the land: for the famine was very fore, fo that. the land of Egypt, and all the land of Canaan, fainted by realon of the famine.

14 And Jofeph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the corn which they bought and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh's house.

15 And when money failed in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, all the Fgyptians came unto Jofeph, and fa1, Give: us bread: for why should we die in thy prefence? for the money faileth.

16 And Jofeph faid, Give your cattle; and I will give you for your cattle, it money tail. 17 And they brought their cattle unto Jofeph: and Jofeph gave them bread in exchange tor hortes, and for the flocks, and for the cattle of the herds, and for the affes; and. he fed them with bread for all their cattle for that year.

18 When that year was ended, they came. unto hin. the fecond year, and said unto him, We will not hide is from my lord, how that our money is fpent; my lord alfo hath our herds of cattle: there is not ought lett in the fight of my lord, but our bodies and our lands.

19 Wherefore fhall we die before thine eyes, both we and our land? buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be feryants unto Pharaoh; and give us feed, that we may live and nou die, that the land be not defolate.

20 And Jofeph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; or the Fgyptians fold. every man his held, because the tamine prevailed over them: fo the land became Pharaoh's 2)-And

21 And as for the people, he removed them to cities from one end of the borders of Egypt, even to the other end thereof.

22 Only the land of the priests bought he not for the priests had a portion affigned them of Pharaoh, and did eat their portion which Pharaoh gave them; wherefore they fold not their lands.

23 Then Jofeph faid unto the people, Behold, I have bought you this day, and your land, for Pharaoh: 10, here is feed for you, and ye shall low the land.

24 And it thall come to pafs, in the increase, that ye shall give the firth parrunto Pharaoh, and four parts thall be your own, for feed of the field, and for your food, and for them of your houtholds, and for 1ood for your little

ones.

25 And they faid, Thou haft faved our lives: let us find grace in the fight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh's fervants.

26 And Jofeph made it a law over the land of Egyptunto this day, that Pharaoh fhould have the fith part; except the land of the priests only, which became not Pharaoh's.

27 And Ifrael dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the country of Gothen; and they had poffellions therein, and grew, and multiplied exceedingly.

28 And Jacob lived in the land of Egypt feventeen years: fo the whole age of Jacob was an hundred forty and feven years.

29 And the time drew nigh that Ifrael muft die: and he called his fon Jofeph, and faid unto him, If now I have found grace in thy fight, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me; bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt.

35 But I will lie with my fathers, and thou falt carry me out of Egypt, and bury me in their burying-place. And he said, I will do as thou haft faid.

31 And he faid, Swear unto me. And he fware unto him. And Ifrael bowed himself apon the bed's head.

CHAP. XLVIII. Jofeph wifits his fick father. 3 Jacob repeats the pr mife, 21 and prophefieth their return. AND it came to pass after these things, that one told Jofeph, Behold, thy father is fick: and he took with him his two fons, Manaffeh and Ephraim.

2 And one told Jacob, and said, Behold, thy fon Jofeph cometh unto thee: and Ifrael trengthened himfelt, and fat upon the bed.

3 And Jacob faid unto Jofeph, God Almighty appeared unto me at Luz in the land of Canaan, and bleffed me,

4 And faid unto me, Behold, I will make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, and I will make of thee a multitude of people; and will give this land to thy feed after thee for an everlasting poffeffion.

And now thy two fons, Ephraim and Manaffeh, which were born unto thee in the land of Egypt, before I came unto thee into Egypt, are mine: as Reuben and Simeon, they fhall be mine.

6 And thy iffue, which thou begettet after them, fhall be thine, and thall be called arter the name of their brethren in their inherit

ance.

7 And as for me, when I came from Padan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan, in Che way, whe here was but a little way

8 And Ifrael beheld Jofeph's fons, and said, Who are these?

9 And Jofeph faid unto hisfather, They are my fons, whom God hath given me in this place. And he faid, Bring them, I pray thee, unto me, and I will blefs them.

10 (Now the eyes of Ifract were dim for age, fo that he could not fee.) And he brought them near unto him; and he kiffed them, and embraced them.

11 And Ifrael faid unto Jofeph, I had not thought to fee thy face; and, lo, God hath fhewed me alfo thy feed.

12 And Jofeph brought them out from between his knees, and he bowed himself with his face to the earth.

13 And Jofeph took them both, Ephraim in his right hand toward Ifrael's left hand, and Manaffeh in his left hand toward Ifrael's right hand, and brought them near unto him.

14 And Ifracl ftretched ut his right hand, and laid it upon Ephraim's head, who was the younger, and his left hand upon Manaffeh's head, guiding his hands wittingly; for Manaffeh was the firit-born.

15And he bleed Jofeph, and said, God before whom my fathers Abraham and Ifaac did walk, the God which fed me all my life long unto this day,,

16 The Angel which redeemed me from all evil, blefs the lads; and let my name be named on them, and the name of my fathers Abraham and Ifaac; and let them grow into a multitude in the midst of the earth.

17 And when Jofeph faw that his father laid his right hand upon the head of Ephraim, it difpicafed him: and he held up his father's hand, to remove it from Ephraim's head unto Manaffeh's head.

18 And Jofeph faid unto his father, Not so, my father; for this is the firit-born: put thy right hand upon his head.

19 And his father refufed, and faid, I know

it, my fon, I know it: he also thall become a people, and he, alfo fhall be great; but truly his younger brother thall be greater than he and his feed fhall become a multitude of nations.

20 And he bleffed them that day, faying, In thee thall Ifrael blefs, faying, God make thee as Ephraim and as Manalleh. And he fet Ephraim before Manaffeh.

21 And Grael faid unto Jofeph, Behold L die; but God thall be with you, and bring you again unto the land of your fathers.

22 Moreover, have given to thee one por. tion above thy brethren, which I took out of the hand of the Amorite with my fword and with my bow.

CHAP. XLIX. Jacob calleth his jons to bless them: 3 their bleng in particular: 29 his charge concerning his bur:al: 33 bis death. AND Jacob called unto his fons, and faid, Cather yourselves together, that I may tell you that which thall betall you in the laft lays.

Gather yourfelves together, and hear, ye tons of jacob; and hearken unto Ifrael y'a father. 14 Xrubea

¶simeon and Levi are brethren; inftruments of cruelty are in their habitations. 60 my foul, come not thou into their feeret; unto their affembly, mine honour, be not thou united: for in their anger they flew a man, and in their feli-will they digged down a wall.

Curfed be their anger, for it was fierce; and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Ifrael.

& Judah, thou art be whom thy brethren full praise; thy hand ball be in the neck of these chemies: thy father's children fhall bow down before thee.

9 Judah is a lion's whelp; from the prey, my fon, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old 'lion; who fall rosie him up!

11 Binding his foal unto the vine, and his afs's colt unto the choice vine; he wathed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes:

His death. they fhall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brethren.

27 Benjamin fhall ravin as a wolf: in the morning he thall devour the prey, and at night he thall divide the spoil.

28 All thefe are the twelve tribes of Ifrael and this is it that their rather ipake unto them, and bleffed them; every one ac cording to his bletting he bleed them.

29 And he charged them, and faid unto them, I am to be gathered unto my people: bury me with my fathers in the cave that isia the field of Ephron the Hittite,

30 In the cave that is in the field of Mach pelah, which is before Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron the Hittite, for a poffeffion of a burying-place.

31 (There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife; there they buried Ifaac and Rebekah his wife; and there I buried Leah.)

32 The purchase of the field, and of the cave that is therein, was from the children of Heth.

33 And when Jacob had made an end of commanding his fons, he gathered up his feet into the bed, and yielded up the ghoft, and was gathered unto his people.

CHAP. L.

13¶ Zebulun fhail dwell at the haven of the fea; and he shall be for an haven of thips: and his border ball be unto Zidon.

14 Ifachar is a strong afs, couching down between two burdens:

15 And he faw that reft was good, and the land that it was pleatant; and bowed his fhoulder to bear, and became a fervant unto tribute.

16 Dan hall judge his people, as one of the tribes of lirael.

17 Dan thall be a ferpent by the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horie-heels, fo that his rider shall fall backward.

18 I have waited for thy falvation, O LORD. 19 Gad, a troop fhall overcome him: but be shall overcome at the laft.

20 Out of Ather his bread ball be fat, and he fail Field royal dainties. 21

Naphtali is a hind let loose: he giveth goodly words.

22 Jofeph is a fruitful bough, even a fruitful bough by a well, whose branches run over the wall.

23 The archers have forely grieved him, and shot at him, and bated him:

24 But his bow abode in ftrength, and the arms of his hands were made trong by the hands of the mighty God of Jacob: (from thence is the Shepherd, the ftone of Ifrael :)

25 Even by the God of thy father, who fall help thee; and by the Almighty, who fhall bless thee with bleffings of heaven above, bleffings of the deep that lieth under, bleibugs of the breafts and of the womb :

26 The bleffings of thy father have prevailed above the blethings of my progenitors, unto the atment bound of the everlasting hills;

wept upon him, and kiffed him.

2 And Jofeph commanded his fervants the phyficians to embalm his father: and the physicians embalmed Ifrael.

3 And forty days were fulfilled for him; (for fo are fulfilled the days of those which are embalnied; and the Egyptians mourned for him threefcore and ten days.

4 And when the days of his mourning were paft, Jofeph fpake unto the house of Pharaoh, faying, If now I have found grace in your eyes, fpeak, pray you, in the ears of Pharaoh, faying,

My father made me fwear, faying, Lo, die: in my grave which I have digged for me in the land of Canaan, there fhalt thou bury me. Now therefore, let me go up, I pray thee, and bury my father, and I wil come again.

6 And Pharaoh faid, Go up, and bury thy father, according as he made thee fwear.

7 And Jofeph went up to bury his fathers and with him went up all the fervants of Pharaoh, the elders of his houfe, and all the elders of the land of Egypt,

8 And all the house of lofeph, and his bre thren, and his father's houfe: only their little ones, and their flocks, and their herds, they left in the land of Gothen.

9 And there went up with him both cha riots and horfemen: and it was a very great company.

10 And they came to the threshing-floor of Arad, which is beyond Jordan; and there they mourned with a great and very fore lamentation: and he made a mourning for his father feven days.

11 And when the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites, faw the mourning in the floor of Atad, they faid, This is a grievous mourning to the Egyptians: wherefore the

17 So fhall ye fay unto Jofeph, Forgive, I pray thee now, the trefpafs of thy bre thren, and their fin; for they did unto thee evil: and now, we pray thee, forgive the trefpafs of the fervants of the God of thy father. And Jofeph wept when they spake unto him.

18 And his brethren alfo went, and fell

19 And tofeph faid unto them, Fear not; for am I in the place of God?

20 But as for you, ye thought evil against me; but God meant it unto good, to bring to pafs, as it is this day, to fave much people alive.

21 Now therefore, fear ye not: I will nou rith you and your little ones. And he com forted them, and pake kin ily unto them.

22 And Jofeph dwelt in Egypt, he and his father's houfe: and Jofeph lived an hundred and ten years.

23 And Tofepa faw Ephraim's children of the third generation: the children alio of Machir, the son of Manasseh, were brought up upon Jofeph's knees.

24 And 'oleph faid unto his brethren, I die : and Cod will furely visit you, and bring you out of this land, u to the land which he fware to Abraham, to ifaac, and to Jacob.

25 And Jofeph took an oath of the chil dren of tirael, faying, God will furely visit you, and ye shall carry up my bones from hence.

2 So Jofeph died, being an hundred and ten years old: and they embalmed him, and he was put in a coffin in Egypt.

CHAP. 1. The children of Ifrael multiply: 8 they are oppreffed by a new king. 15 The midwives fave the males alive.

OW thefe are the names of the children

every an and his houthold came with Jacob.

2 Reuben, Simeon, Levi, and Judah, 3 Iffachar, Zebulun, and Benjamin, 4 Dan, and Naphtali, Gad, and Afher. 5 And all the fouls that came out of the loins of Jacob were feventy fouls for Jofeph was in Egypt already.

6 And Jofeph died, and all his brethren, and all that generation.

7 And the children of Ifrael were fruitful, and increased abundantly, and multiplied, and waxed exceeding mighty; and the land was filled with them.

8 Now there arofe up a new king over Egypt, which knew not Jofeph.

And he faid unto his people, Behold, the people of the children of Ifrael are more and mightier than we.

10 Come on, let us deal wifely with them, left they multiply; and it come to país, that, when there falleth out any war, they join alfo unto our enemies, and rght against us, and fo get them up cut of the land.

11 Therefore they did fet over them taikmafters, to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh treafure-cities, Pithom ani Raamfes.

12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and grew. And they were grieved becaufe of the Children of Ifrael.

13. And the Egyptians made the children of

Ifrael ferve with rigour.

14 And they made their lives bitter wish

hard bondage, in mortar, and in brick, and in all manner of fervice in the field: all their fervice, wherein they made them ferve, was

15 And the king of Egypt fpake to the Hebrew midwives; (or which the name of one was Shiphrah, and the name of the other Puah ;)

16 And he said, When ye do the office of a midwife to the Hebrew women, and set them upon the ftools, if it be a fon, then ye hall kill him; but if it be a daughter, then the thali live.

17 But the midwives feared God, and did not as the king of Egypt commanded them, but faved the men-children alive.

18 And the king of Egypt called for the midwives, and aid unto them, Why have ye done this thing, and have faved tho menchildren alive?

19 And the midwives laid unto Pharaoh, Because the Hebrew women are not as the Egyptian women; for they are lively, and are delivered ere the midwives come in unto them.

20 Therefore God dealt well with the minwives: and the people multiplied, and wax. ed very mighty."

21 And it came to pafs, because the midwives feared Cod, that he made them houfes.

22 And Pharaoh charged all his people, faying, Every fon that is born ye thall caft into the river, and every daughter ye fhall fave alive. CHAP. II.

8 And Pharaoh's daughter faid to her, Go. And the maid went, and called the child's mother.

y And Pharaoh's daughter faid unto her, Take this child away, and nurie it for me, and I will give thee thy wages. And the woman tookie child, and nurfed it.

to And the child grew, and the brought him unto Pharaoh's daughter, and he became her fon. And the calle his name Motes: and the faid, Because I drew him out ei the water.

11And it came to pafs in those days, when Moles was grown, that he went Gut unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens and ae fpied an Egyptian imicing an Hebrew, one of his brethren.

12 An 1 he looked this way and that way, and, when he saw that there was no man, he flew the Egyptian, and hit him in the fand. 15 And when he went out the fecond day, behold, two men of the Hebrews ftrove together: and he faid to him that did the wrong, Where ore friteit thou thy tellow!

14 And he faid, Who mate thee a prince and a judge over us? Intendent thou to kill m as thou killed the bgyptian? And Moles feared, and faid, Surely this thing is known. 15 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he fought to lay Mofes. But Moles fled from the face of Pharaon, an I dwelt in the land of Midian: and he fat down by a well.

16 Now the priest of Midian had feven daughters: and they came and drew water, and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.

17 Anithe shepherds came and drove them away: but Mo ́es ftood up and helped them, and watered their flock.

18 And when they came to Reuel their father, he faid, How is it that ye are come fo foon to-day?

19 And they faid, An Fgyptian delivered us out of the hand or the shepherds, and alfo drew water enough for us, and watered the flock.

20 And he faid unto his daughters, And where is he? Why is it that ye have left the man? Call him, that he may eat bread.

21 And Mofes was content to dwell with the man: and he gave Mofes Zipporah his daughter.

23 And the bare bím a son, and he called

father-in-law, the priest of Midian: and he led the flock to the back-fide of the defert, and came to the mountain of God, even to Horeb.

2 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto him in a name of fire out of the mida or a bufh: and he looked, and behold, the buth purged with fire, and the buih was not confume 1.

3 And Mofes faid, I will now turn afide and fee this great fight, why the bush is not

burnt.

4 And when the LORD faw that he turned afide to see, God calle 1 unto him out of the milft or the bush, and fard, Mofes, Moses. And he faid, Here am 1.

And he faid, Draw not nigh hither: put off thy thees from off thy teet; for the place whereon thou itandeft is holy ground.

Moreover he faid, I am the God of thy fa ther, the God of Abraham, the God of Taac, and the God of jacob And Moles hid his face; for he was afraid to look upon God.

7¶ And the op faid, I have turely feen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taik-matters; for i know their forrows;

8 And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land ani a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, ant the Hittites, and the Amor. ites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Tebutites.

Now therefore, behold, the cry of the children of Ifrael is come unto me: and I have alfo feen the oppreffion wherewith the Egyptians opprefs them.

10 Come now, there ore, and I will fend thee unto Pharaoh, that thou mayet bring forth my people, the children of ffrael, out of Egypt.'

11And Mofes faid unto God, Who am I, that thould go unto Pharaoh, and that I fhould bring forth the children of Ifrael out of Egypt?

12 Am he faid, Certainly I will be with thee: and this ball be a token unto thee that I have lent thee: When thou haft brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye thall ferve God upon this mountain."

13 And Mofes faid unto God, Behold, when I come unto the children of Ifrael, and fhall fay unto them, The God of your fathers hath fent me unto you; and they hall ay to me, What is his name? what ball fay un. to them?
