SUMMARY OF REQUIREMENTS

Mr. ROONEY. This morning, gentlemen, we commence consid tion of the estimates of the Bureau of the Budget for the Departm of Commerce. At this point we shall insert in the record pa 1, 2, 3, 4, and 4-A of the justifications, from which it appears that amount appropriated in the fiscal year 1950, is $675,621,402; w the proposed supplemental due to the pay increase of $3,387,50 added to this, the total for the current year is in the amo $679,008,902. The amount requested for the coming fiscal year $782,419,000, an increase of $103,410,098.

NOTE.-Contract authorizations requested for 1951 total $75,836,500 (CAA, $70,161,500 and the National Bureau of Standards, $5,675,000). The amount authorized for 1950 was $67,300,000-all for CAA.

1 When testifying on the seventeenth decennial census the Bureau of the Census revised the fi average number of employees for 1951 from 7,744.3 (originally reported) to 8,171.6, an increase of 427.3 responding increases, therefore, should be reflected in the total of average employment for 1951 from to 44,695.5 and in permanent positions from 42,251.7 to 42,679.

Mr. ROONEY. We are pleased to have with us this morning Secretary of Commerce, the Honorable Charles Sawyer. At point I should like to inquire whether or not the Secretary prepared statement to submit?
