MEMORANDUM OF TRANSMITTAL BY THE CHAIRMAN

To the Members of the Committee:

JUNE 30, 1962.

The Public Health Service of the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare has transmitted to our committee, in accordance with our resolution of January 22, 1962, a report on new materials and new uses of materials in construction of water and waste collection, distribution and treatment systems, and in water quality control.

The report discusses modern water and sewage systems, water distribution systems, design and construction of water treatment plants, waste collection systems, research and demonstrations to develop waste treatment processes which will maintain water quality suitable for repeated reuse and comprehensive water quality management. The report discusses many new uses of materials, new materials, and new types of equipment. It reflects the genuine interest and competence of the Public Health Service in the field of water resources development and use.

I am sure that you will find the report extremely interesting, particularly in view of the action of our committee in recent years in authorizing expanded water pollution control activities, inclusion of municipal and industrial water supply capacity in reservoirs, and the inclusion of capacity in reservoirs for water quality control.

DENNIS CHAVEZ,

Chairman, Committee on Public Works.
