Technical notes for maritime work injury DATA reported under Public Law 85–742 The injury frequency and severity rates shown in these tabulations are for activities subject to the Longshoremen's and Harbor Workers' Compensation Act collected under provisions of Public Law 85–742. These data are based on only the reported shipboard exposure and do not include work performed in shoreside environments. ASA standard 216.1 is used as the work-injury reporting criteria and rates are those compiled by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The injury frequency rate is the average number of disabling work injuries for each million employee-hours worked. The severity rate is the average number of days of disability resulting from disabling work injuries, for each million employee-hours worked. 1960 longshore figures include railroad man-hours under the act. 1961 adjusted totals exclude railroad hours that were reported under longshoring hours and reassigned to other harbor work category. 1962 data are reported under revised geographical and statistical boundaries due to establishment of additional LSB districts. 1963 "shipyard" classification was established. It combines all ship repairing, shipbuilding, and shipbreaking activities reported under the act. Maritime work injury data 1 reported under Public Law 85-742 20.7 North Atlantic region.
