This is the largest in size of all the commodity programs serving only 7,500 people. The new warehouse is 100 x 120 ft. with a built in cooler. This building is satisfactory to contain a 5 to 6 month supply of commodities.

It takes approximately eleven people to manage this operation. All employees are hired by the Pine Ridge Sioux Tribe.

The operation has been working very satisfactorily considering the degree of political stride that has been present on the Reservation.

The program is well equipped with a new electric fork-lift and other warehouse essentials. The motor pool consists of one large van truck and a big tractor trailer to haul commodities from the Rushville rail-head. in addition, four other vehicles are used for area distribution service. The large diesel bus and smaller converted school bus are very serviceable for area distribution.

Three new vehicles have been purchased to provde the necessary hauling services. A large tandem truck is used mainly for railhead hauling from Valentine and the Sioux Falls warehouse.

Nine people are employed by the Rosebud Sioux Tribe to manage this operation. The commodity role has stead 1ly increased the past two years. These area employees made de1i ver1es up to 113 miles one way.

This is the third largest of the Reservations in South Dakota, serving over 2,500 people. Here we have two 3ź ton truck vans and one pickup to make all hauls and distribution issues.

One director and one bookkeeper handle 4 or 5 helpers who are assigned to the warehouse from work programs on the Reservation. The program is well established and equipped. The commodity supervisor has held this position for 14 years.

The new warehouse is large and very serviceable. A new electric fork-lift and other necessary warehouse equipment ease the handling of USDA donated foods.
