Replies to this question were also grouped according to answers to the previous question. Ninety-six percent of the teachers who reported a high level of performance believed that this prestige was merited by the professional performance of the teachers in their community. Almost half (43 percent) of the teachers reporting medium prestige believed it was deserved and more than half (55 percent) thought teacher performance deserved higher prestige in their community. In the low group, 89 percent felt teacher performance deserved higher prestige. The distributions of responses were as follows:
