THE EVANGELIZATION OF KOREA

OES God choose one people rather than another to enjoy the blessings of His gospel? If we mean by that, Does God, regardless of conditions and of the regular, unchanging, universal laws of His Kingdom, psychical and physical, arbitrarily elect one people rather than another to be the recipients of His love and life through a superimposed faith in Jesus Christ? We answer, No. If we mean, Does God, upon the recognition and acceptance of His beneficent principles of faith, hope and love, on the part of any people who meet the conditions imposed, either of themselves or by the assistance and cooperation of others, choose such people as His special and peculiar people? we answer, Yes. It was thus He chose the Jewish race;-the text, "Jacob have I loved and Esau have I hated," is no contradiction of the above principle. It was the spirit of Abraham exercised by Jacob that made him the father of the Jewish people, the chosen of God. It was the lack of the exercise of such a spirit by Esau that caused him to forfeit the favor of God. God is no respector of persons or nations.
