They have passed, with amendments, House bill entitled an act to amend an re-enact an act approved March 3, 1898, entitled an act to prevent shooting or killing game at night in the counties of Charles City, Prince George, New Kent, Henrico, and James City, No. 140; an act to change the name of the Elizabeth Night Ferry Company to the Elizabeth River Ferry Company, and to amend and re-enact sections 1, 2, and 3 of an act entitled an act to incorporate the Elizabeth Night Ferry Company, approved January 15, 1896, No. 160; and, an act to allow C. W. Thomas, treasurer of the city of Roanoke, further time to collect certain tax tickets in his hands, No. 342.

They have passed Senate bills entitled an act to allow lessees of fifty or more contiguous acres of planting-ground to dredge or scrape the same under certain conditions, and to impose a penalty for dredging or scraping planting-grounds except as provided in this act, No. 292; an act to extend the time in which the securities of C. H. English, late treasurer of Henry county, may settle with the Auditor of Public Accounts, under provisions of an act approved March 3, 1898, No. 335; an act to incorporate the Christiansburg Industrial Institute, of Cambria, Virginia, No, 455; an act for the relief of William H. Brauer, treasurer of Henrico county, No. 459; an act to amend and re-enact section 11 of an act entitled an act to create the board of fisheries, define its duties, and fix the salaries of its members, approved February 7, 1898, No. 466; an act to provide that planters to whom natural oyster rocks have been assigned through mistake shall have a reasonable time to remove their planted oysters therefrom, &c., No. 467; an act to incorporate the Westminster School of Richmond, Virginia, No. 470; an act to authorize the board of fisheries under certain conditions to compensate out of oyster fund certain planters for loss of oysters, No. 478; an act to authorize the United States government to acquire title to and jurisdiction over certain lands situate on Cape Henry, in the county of Princess Anne, No. 411; and an act, Senate joint resolutions, providing for a codification of the oyster and fish laws now in force, No. 468.

The following Senate bills were reported from the Committee on Roads and Internal Navigation :

No. 447, Senate bill entitled an act to repeal an act for the creation of a corporation to be known as the Norfolk, Portsmouth and Newport News Railway Company by the consolidation with the Port Norfolk Electric Railway Company, the Portsmouth and Smithfield Railroad Company, and the Portsmouth, Pig's Point and Newport News Railway, Ferry and Hotel Company, and to define its powers, approved on the 17th day of January, 1900.

No. 448, Senate bill entitled an act to authorize the consolidation of the Port Norfolk Electric Railway Company, the Portsmouth and Smithfield Railway Company, and the Portsmouth, Pig's Point and Newport News Railway, Ferry and Hotel Company into a corporation to be known as the Norfolk, Portsmouth and Newport Railway Company, and to define its powers.

No. 449, Senate bill entitled an act to empower the Norfolk, Portsmouth and Newport News Railway Company when formed by the consolidation of the Port Norfolk Electric Railway Company, the Portsmouth and Smithfield Railroad Company, and the Portsmouth, Pig's Point and Newport News Railway, Ferry and Hotel Company to acquire household or other estate in the Norfolk County Ferries.

No. 407, Senate bill entitled an act to incorporate the James River Railway Company.

No. 172, Senate bill entitled an act to incorporate the Hampton Roads Railway and Electric Company.

No. 450, Senate bill entitled an act to amend and re-enact section 12, chapter 6, of an act entitled an act to incorporate the city of Danville, approved February 17, 1890, and to amend and re-enact section 1, chapter 8 of said act, as amended and re-enacted by an act approved December 18, 1897, and entitled an act to amend section 1, chapter 8, of an act entitled an act to incorporate the city of Danville, approved February 17, 1890.

No. 498, Senate bill entitled an act to authorize the county court and board of supervisors of Cumberland county to allow a monument to the Confederate dead, to be erected on the public square of said county.

No. 253, Senate bill to amend and re-enact the tenth sub-division of section 183 of the Code of Virginia, as amended by an act approved March 3, 1892, relating to the salaries of superintendent of the penitentiary, surgeon, assistant-keepers and clerks, reported from the Committee on Finance.

No. 90, Senate bill in relation to judgment, &c., in Appomattox county, reported from Committee for Courts of Justice.

The following Senate bills were reported from the Committee on General Laws, with a recommendation that they do not pass:

No. 145, Senate bill entitled an act to amend and re-enact section 1398 of the Code, in reference to conveyances and gifts by will for religious purposes, as amended and re-enacted by an act approved March 4, 1898, entitled an act to amend sections 1398 and 1399 of the Code, as amended by an act approved January 31, 1890, as to what conveyances for religious purposes are valid.

No. 340, Senate bill entitled an act to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act to incorporate the Trustees of the Funds of the Protestant Episcopal Church, in the Diocese of Virginia, approved February 2, 1892.

No. 433, Senate bill entitled an act to incorporate the John Marshall Memorial Association, was reported from the Committee on General Laws.

No. 516, House bill to regulate the hours of employment of male operatives of fourteen years of age and over in factories or estab lishments for the manufacture of cotton products, and to prescribe punishment for persons violating the provisions thereof, reported from the Committee on Labor and the Poor, was read a first time.

No. 517, House bill to amend and re-enact an act entitled an act to amend and re-enact section 4106 of the Code of Virginia, as amended and re-enacted by an act approved February 23, 1894, as amended and re-enacted by an act approved March 5, 1896, in relation to the jurisdiction of police justices and justices of the peace, as to the trial of offenders in certain cases, approved February 9, 1898, providing for prosecutions of misdemeanors and the compensation of Commonwealth's attorneys for such services.

No. 518, House bill to amend and re-enact section 3563 of the Code of Virginia, in relation to the satisfaction of judgment liens to be entered by a creditor on judgment docket; how noted, signed and attested.

No. 519, House bill to incorporate the Marion Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

No. 520, House bill to amend and re-enact section 3805 of the Code of Virginia, in regard to the disturbance of religious worship, and how the same shall be punished.

No. 521, House bill to amend and re-enact an act to make husband and wife competent witness for or against each other in certain civil and criminal cases.

The following House bills, reported from the Committee on Finance, were read a first time:

No. 522, House bill for the relief of Charles Richardson from the payment of certain fines.

No. 523, House bill to provide for the better enforcement and collection of the tax now imposed by law upon shares of stock in corporations, joint stock companies, by requiring sworn lists of the stockholders of said corporations or companies, resident in this State, to be filed with the Auditor of Public Accounts, and to direct the disposition of said lists, and to prescribe penalties for the failure or refusal to file said lists, or the furnishing of a false list.

No. 356, House bill to create and maintain a State board of croppest commissioners, and define their powers, heretofore recommitted, was reported back.

No. 524, House bill to require certain corporations to give to their discharged employees or agents the cause of their removal or discharge, when discharged or removed, reported from the Committee on Roads and Internal Navigation, was read a first time.

No. 535, House bill declaring certain streams in Powhatan county to be highways, heretofore recommitted to the Committee on Counties, Cities and Towns, was reported back with amendments.

No. 271, House bill to regulate the hours of labor of conductors and motormen on street railways operating in this State, to provide a penalty for the violation of same, and other purposes, heretofore committed to the Committee on Labor and Poor, was reported back.

No. 62, House engrossed bill to provide for the working and keeping in repair, opening and discontinuing the public roads in the county of Brunswick, and for the purpose of building and keeping in repair the bridges in the said county, heretofore committed to the Committee on Counties, Cities and Towns, with Senate amendments, was reported back with recommendation that the House agree to the amendments offered by the Senate.

The following House bills were, on motions severally made by Messrs. FITZPATRICK, WHITEHEAD of Norfolk, GOAD, MCALLISTER and MADISON, were placed on the calendar:

No. 525, House bill to define a lawful fence in a portion of Massies Mill District in Nelson county.

No. 526, House bill to amend and re-enact section 18 of an act entitled an act providing a charter for the city of Norfolk and repealing the existing charter, approved April 21, 1882, in force January 21, 1884, as to the powers of the council of the city of Nortolk and restrictions on the councils in passing certain resolutions and ordinances.

No. 527, House bill authorizing the members of the councils of the city of Norfolk from Atlantic City Ward to vote on all questions.

No. 528, House bill to amend and re-enact section 27 of an act entitled an act providing a charter for the city of Norfolk, and repealing the existing charter, approved April 21, 1882, in force January 21, 1884, as to the election of a police justice and other jus tices of the peace.

No. 529, House bill giving powers to the councils of the city of Norfolk to require owners of property abutting on streets, or require the city to pave or keep in repair the sidewalks, and giving the councils power, acting through a board or committee, after notice to the owner or occupant, that the owner shall build or repair and his neglect to do so, to build or repair the walk and have the costs thereof assessed as a lien against the property, and imposing a penalty for violation of ordinances passed in pursuance thereof.

No. 530, House bill to extend the time in which R. D. Buford, ex-clerk of Bedford county court, may collect fee bills.

No. 531, House bill to authorize the council of the town of Covington, in the county of Alleghany, to borrow money for the purpose of purchasing, erecting, constructing and maintaining a system of water works for said town.

No. 532, House bill to amend and re-enact section 65 of an act entitled an act to incorporate the city of Newport News, in the county of Warwick, approved January 16, 1896.

No. 533, House bill to amend and re-enact section 84 of an act to incorporate the city of Newport News in the county of Warwick and provide a charter therefor, approved January 16, 1896.

No. 534, House bill to authorize F. M. Thrift to erect a wharf on Yeocomico river in Westmoreland county.

No. 535, House bill for the relief of J. B. Trevillian, sergeant of the town of Ashland, Virginia.
