The witnesses included senior staff of federal agencies (HHS, NCHS, NIH, FDA, USDA), medical and nutrition experts from academic institutions, and from other sectors, including the food industry. These included the Assistant Secretary for HHS, the Directors of NIH and the FDA Bureau of Foods, the Deputy Secretary of USDA, the Adminstrator of the Human Nutrition Information Service, the Associate Director for the ARS Human Nutrition Research Center, and the Directors of the nutrition science departments of Cornell University and General Foods Corporation.
