I do not quite know where to begin in thanking people for the
patience it has required to manage and assemble such a large pool
of information as is contained herein. Nonetheless, I shall try to
express my gratitude for the past several months of hard work. First,
I want to thank Tamara Hatfield and the staff who labored on the
telephone in their efforts to contact all of the Federal agencies
that are included within the Directory. In addition, I am grateful
to those involved in the tedious editing and rereading of these
materials to mold them into shape for this final product. Finally,
but also of the utmost importance, are those forgotten computer
programmers who worked many late nights and weekends to deliver this
document on schedule, namely, Randall Guynes and Pat Bond. To all
of you guys
thanks.

FOREWORD

St

This document identifies federal programs that have assisted or

otentially could assist correctional agencies, personnel, and clients.

ince the compilation of the directory, recommendations have been made

o Congress for the significant reduction of some of the programs contained ere. The fate of some programs is therefore in doubt.

Federal programs specifically geared to corrections and criminal ustice were not exempt from the budget cut recommendations, making the dentification of other sources of federal assistance even more critical. e therefore would encourage you to explore those programs that appear elevant to your needs.

A second directory that identifies non-federal resources available to

he field has also been developed and will soon be released.

It is our

ope that these directories will facilitate access to resources that may therwise remain untapped by corrections.
