Attachment #1 COMPARISON BY MILITARY SERVICE OF DRUG ABUSE OFFENSE STATISTICS FOR CALENDAR YEAR 1970 The number of individuals investigated per 1,000 of personnel world-wide for hard narcotics involvement was highest in the Marine Corps with the Army having the next highest rate. The number of individuals investigated world-wide per 1,000 of personnel for involvement with marijuana was highest in the Marine Corps, and next highest in the Army. The number of individuals investigated per 1,000 of personnel world-wide for involvement with dangerous drugs was highest in the Marine Corps and next highest in the Navy. During 1970 the Air Force had the lowest rate world-wide of investigations of individuals per 1,000 for involvement with hard narcotics, marijuana and dangerous drugs. Navy was next to the lowest in these categories with respect to hard narcotics, and marijuana, and Army was next to the lowest with respect to dangerous drugs. All services experienced an increase in the number of individuals investigated for involvement with marijuana, hard narcotics and the dangerous drugs.
