CAP. LXXXIII.

An Act to amend an Act, made in the laft Seffion of Parlia-
ment, for providing for the Charge of certain Additions to
the Public Debt of Ireland.
[10th July 1817.]

WHEREAS by an Act made in the laft Seffion of Parlia

ment, intituled An Act to provide for the Charge of certain • Additions to the Public Debt of Ireland, for the Service of the Year One thousand eight hundred and fixteen, it was enacted, that the • Sum of One million eight hundred fifty two thousand and seventy two Pounds Five Pounds per Centum Consolidated Annuities, ftanding in the Books of the Governor and Company of the Bank of • Ireland in the Names of the Commiffioners for the Reduction • of the National Debt in Ireland, fhould be cancelled: And Whereas Part of the faid Sum of One million eight hundred fifty two thousand and feventy two Pounds Five Pounds per Centum An• nuities, was, at the time of the paffing of the faid Act, ftanding in the Books of the Governor and Company of the Bank of England in the Names of the faid Commiffioners, and it was intended that the fame fhould be cancelled by the faid A&t;' Be it therefore enacted by The King's Moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Confent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That from and after the Twenty fifth Day of March One thoufand eight hundred and feventeen, the Sum of One hundred eighty thousand two hundred ninety fix Pounds Nine Shillings and Four Pence Five Pounds per Centum Irish Annuities, ftanding in the Books of the Governor and Company of the Bank of England in the Names of the late Commiffioners for the Reduction of the National Debt of Ireland, or in the Names of the Commiffioners for the Reduction of the National Debt of the Ireland or U. K. United Kingdom, fhall be cancelled, and the faid Sum is hereby declared to be cancelled from the faid Twenty fifth Day of March accordingly; and that from and after the faid Twenty fifth Day of March the Interest or Dividend which would have been payable upon the faid Sum fo cancelled fhall cease to be iffued from the Receipt of the Exchequer in Ireland or in Great Britain, or to be charged upon the Confolidated Fund of the United Kingdom, and the Money which would have been applicable to the Payment thereof shall remain and be a Part of the growing Produce of the faid Confolidated Fund, for the Purpose of defraying the Charge occafioned by any Addition made or to be made to the Public Debt in the present

II. And be it further enacted, That it fhall be lawful for the Governor and Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, and they or either of them are and is hereby authorized and required, to receive all the Arrears of Intereft or Dividends now due on the faid Annuities, and to place the fame to the Account of the Commiffioners for the Reduction of the National Debt, raised in their Books under and in virtue of an A&t paffed in the Twenty fixth Year of His present Majefty, intituled An Ad for vefting certain Sums in Commiffioners at the End of every Quarter of the Year, to be by them applied to the Reduction of the National Debt; and that

the faid Governor and Deputy Governor of the Bank of England, and their Succeffors, fhall be and they are hereby held harmlefs and indemnified from and against all Claims and Demands of or by any Person or Persons for or by reafon or in confequence of the Payments by the faid Governor or Deputy Governor of the Bank of England of the Dividends herein before directed to be received; and the faid Governor or Deputy Governor of the Bank of England fhall not be required to fee to the Application of the said Dividends, nor be in any manner refponfible for the Mifapplication or Nonapplication thereof.

An Act to regulate the Offices of His Majefty's Exchequer in
England and Ireland refpectively. [10th July 1817.]

HEREAS the Offices of Auditors and Tellers of His W Majefty's Exchequer in England and Ireland refpectively, and of Clerks of the Pells in England and Ireland refpectively, are 'Offices with refpect to which it is expedient that a more econo'mical Execution of the Duties thereof respectively, after the 'Termination of the prefent existing Interefts therein refpectively, 'fhould be adopted;' May it therefore please Your Majefty that it may be enacted; and be it enacted by The King's Moft Excellent Majefty, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That the feveral Duties of certain and refpective Duties of the feveral and refpective Offices of Au- Offices, after ditor, and of each of the Four Tellers of His Majefty's Exchequer Expiration of and Clerk of the Pells in England, and of Auditor and of Teller exifting Interefts, to be performed of His Majefty's Exchequer and Clerk of the Pells in Ireland, in Perfon. fhall, from and after and upon the refpective Terminations of the refpective prefent exifting Interefts in each of the said Offices respectively, and as each of the faid Offices shall become vacant upon the Termination of fuch present existing Interests, be regulated under the Provifions of this Act, and thereafter be executed and performed by the several and respective Perfons appointed to execute the fame in Person.

more of them in that Behalf; Regard being had in every fuch case. to the Nature and Extent of the Duties to be performed, and to the Refponfibility which may attach or belong to the feveral and respective Officers or Perfons executing the Duties of the faid Offices respectively; and all fuch Regulations, Appointments and Salaries, when fo made and established, fhall become and be in full force and Effect in relation to the said Offices refpectively; any thing contained in any Act or Acts of Parliament, or any Law or Laws, or Ufage, Custom or Practice, to the contrary notwithstanding.

III. And be it further enacted, That the faid Lord High Treafurer or Commiffioners of the Treasury, or any Three or more of them for the time being, shall within Six Weeks after the Regulation, under the Provifions of this Act, of any fuch Office fo becoming vacant as aforefaid, if Parliament fhall be then fitting, or if Parliament fhall not be then fitting, then within Six Weeks after the Commencement of the next Seffion of Parliament, † an Account of fuch new Eftablishment of the Office fo regulated, and all the Regulations above mentioned, with a Statement of the Number of Officers and Amount of Salaries of each refpectively, together with a Statement of the former Eftablishment of the Office fo regulated.

IV. And be it further enacted, That all Sums of Money arifing from Salaries, Fees or Emoluments, which shall by reafon of the Regulation of any fuch Offices be more than fufficient to apply the Sum of Forty eight thousand Pounds per Annum to the Civil Lift Revenues, under the Provisions of an A&t passed in the laft Seffion of Parliament, intituled An Act for the better Regulation of the Civil Lift, and to defray the Salaries and incidental Charges of the new Establishment of any fuch Office, fhall, by the Orders and Directions of the faid Lord High Treasurer or Commiffioners of the Treasury (which Orders and Directions the faid Lord High Treasurer or Commiffioners of the Treasury, or any Three or more of them, are hereby authorized and required to make and give for that Purpose), be paid into the Receipt of the Exchequer, and be carried to and make Part of the Confolidated Fund of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland; any thing in any Act or Acts of Parliament to the contrary notwithstanding.

V. And be it further enacted, That every Office and Appointment belonging to and making Part of the Establishment of any of the faid Offices refpectively, when fo regulated as aforefaid, shall be deemed and taken to be a new Office within the true Intent and Meaning of an Act paffed in the Sixth Year of the Reign of Her late Majefty Queen Anne; and every Perfon holding any fuch Office fhall be incapable of fitting or voting as a Member of the House of Commons; and every fuch Officer who fhall fit or vote in the House of Commons shall be liable and subject to the Penalties and Forfeitures contained in an A&t paffed in the Fifteenth Year of the Reign of His late Majefty King George the Second, intituled An Aa to exclude certain Officers from being Members of the House of Commons.

VI. And be it further enacted, That every Person who shall be appointed to discharge the Duties of the feveral and respective

Offices of Auditor and of Teller of His Majefty's Exchequer and of Clerk of the Pells in England, and of Auditor and Teller of His Majesty's Exchequer, and of Clerk of the Pells in Ireland, according to the Establishment of any of the faid Offices respectively to be made in pursuance of this Act, shall be deemed and taken to have the fame Intereft in the faid Offices as if the fame had been granted by His Majefty's Letters Patent during good Behaviour.

CAP. LXXXV.

An Act to permit, until the Fourteenth Day of November One thousand eight hundred and feventeen, the Importation of Corn and other Articles in any Ship and from any Country; to permit fuch Articles which may have been warehoufed for Exportation only to be entered for Home Consumption; and for indemnifying all Perfons who have given Directions for the Importation of Corn and other Articles, or the taking the fame out of Warehouse free of Duty, and who have acted in obedience thereto. [10th July 1817.] HEREAS it is expedient to allow for a limited time Corn, Grain, Meal, Flour and Rice to be imported in any Ship or Veffel from any Country whatever, and that such Articles warehoused for Exportation only should be allowed to be entered for Home Confumption, provided the Ports fhall continue open during fuch limited time for fuch Species of Grain, under the

Commons, in this prefent Parliament affembled, and by the Au-
thority of the fame, That from and after the paffing of this Act, Corn, &c. may
until the Fourteenth Day of November inclufive in this prefent be imported in
Year, it shall and may be lawful for any Perfon or Perfons to im- any Veffel from
port Corn, Grain, Meal, Flour and Rice in any Ship or Veffel any Country till
from any Country whatever, any Law, Custom or Ufage to the
contrary thereof notwithstanding: Provided always, that the Im-

legal, under the Provifions of the aforefaid A&t passed in the Fifty
fifth Year of His prefent Majesty's Reign.

And Whereas the Commiffioners of His Majefty's Treafury of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland have thought it expedient to give Directions for the Importation of the aforefaid Articles in any Ship or Veffel, and from any Coun< try whatever; and that such of the aforefaid Articles as may have 'been warehoused for Exportation only be entered for Home Confumption, agreeably to the Provifions of the aforesaid A&t paffed in the Fifty fifth Year of the Reign of His present Majefty, and that Rye Meal warehoufed or imported for Ex. portation may be admitted to Entry Duty free; and it is expedient that fuch Proceeding fhould be fanctioned by Parliament, and that all Persons iffuing, giving or advising fuch Directions, or concerned in the iffuing, giving, or advising any fuch Directions, and alfo all Perfons acting under or in purfuance thereof, fhould be refpectively indemnified;' Be it therefore enacted, That all Perfons iffuing, giving or advising any fuch Directions as aforefaid, or concerned in the iffuing, giving or advifing any fuch Directions, and alfo all Perfons acting or who may act under or in pursuance of the faid Directions, fhall be and they are hereby indemnified for and on account of the fame, and of any Act, Matter or thing done in pursuance of, or in obedience to, or in conformity with fuch Directions as aforefaid, as fully and effectually to all Intents and Purposes whatever as if the fame Directions had been given, and fuch Acts, Matters and things had been done in pursuance of any Act or Acts of Parliament.

An Act to permit the Importation of Foreign Cambricks and Lawns into Ireland, on Payment of the like Duties as are chargeable in Great Britain.
