of the Customs in Scotland, the Office of Receiver of Bishops' Rents in Scotland, the Offices of Inspectors of Wheel Carriages in Scotland, the Office of Gazette Writer in Scotland, and the Office of Inspector General of the Roads in Scotland, without Prejudice nevertheless to the Discharge of the Duties of the Infpector of Roads, purfuant to an Act paffed in the Fifty fourth Year of the Reign of His prefent Majefty, intituled An A&t for maintaining and keeping in Repair certain Roads and Bridges made in Scotland for the Purpofe of Military Communication, and for making more effectual Provifion for maintaining and repairing Roads made and Bridges built in Scotland under the Authority of the Parliamentary Commiffioners for Highland Roads and Bridges; and fo foon as any of the faid Offices fhall become vacant, the fame fhall be and from thenceforth become for ever abolished.

XIII. XIV. And be it further enacted, That the Lord High Treasurer or Commiffioners of the Treasury, or any Three or more of them for the time being, fhall, within Six Weeks after the Regulation, under the Provifions of this Act, of any Office hereby directed to be regulated, if Parliament fhall be then fitting, or if Parliament shall not be then fitting, within Six Weeks after the Commencement of the ment, next Seffion of Parliament, lay before both Houfes of Parliament an Account of every new Establishment of any fuch Office so regulated, with a Statement of the Number of Officers, and Amount of Salaries or Allowances of each respectively, together with a Statement of the former Establishment of the Office so regulated; and the said Commiffioners of the Treafury fhall in like manner within the above mentioned Period lay before Parliament a Statement of every Office that shall be abolished under the Provifions of this Act, fhewing the Saving thereby made to the Public.

XV. And be it further enacted, That the Regulation of any Office under the Provifions of this Act, which was an Office exifting previous to an A&t paffed in the Sixth Year of the Reign of Her late Majesty Queen Anne, intituled An A&t for the Security of Her Majesty's Perfon and Government, and of the Succeffion to the Crown of Great Britain in the Proteftant Line, fhall not be held to be a new Office within the Intent and Meaning of that Act of Parliament; but every Perfon holding any fuch Office fo regulated fhall be and remain in the fame Situation with refpect to that Act of Parliament, as if the fame had not been regulated under the Provifions of this A&t.

An Act to enable His Majefty to recompenfe the Services of Perfons holding, or who have held, certain high and efficient Civil Offices. [7th July 1817.] HEREAS the Abolition and Regulation of various Offices will deprive the Crown of Part of the Means by which His Majefty has been heretofore enabled to recompenfe the Services of Perfons holding, or who have held, high and efficient Civil Offices: And Whereas it is expedient and neceffary, and confiftent with found Policy and proper Economy, that upon the Abolition and Regulation of various Offices of Emolument, other Means 'fhould be afforded to His Majefty, His Heirs and Succeffors, of recompenfing the meritorious Services of Perfons filling or who • have filled high effective Civil Offices, and making competent Pro• vifion for Persons holding such Offices upon their quitting or being • removed from the fame: May it therefore please Your Majesty that it may be enacted; and be it enacted by The King's moft Excellent Majesty, by and with the Advice and Consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament affembled, and by the Authority of the fame, That after the Expiration of Two Years from the paffing of this Act, it shall be lawful for His Majefty, His Heirs and Succeffors, by any Warrant under His Royal Sign Manual, counterfigned by any Three or more of the Commiffioners of His Majefty's Treasury of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland for the time being, to grant unto any fons holding cer- Person who fhall have served His Majefty, His Heirs or Succeffors, for any Period not less than Two Years in the whole, either uninterruptedly or at different times, in any one or more of the Offices of functions herein First Lord of the Treafury or of one of His Majesty's Principal Secretaries of State, or Chancellor of the Exchequer, or First Lord of the Admiralty, a Penfion during Life not exceeding Three thoufand Pounds per Annum; and at the Expiration of every further progreffive Period of Two Years more from the paffing of this Act, to grant in like manner other like Penfions to any other fuch Perfons as aforefaid, until, at the Expiration of Twelve Years from the paffing of this Act, Six of fuch Penfions fhall have been granted in the whole; and from and after fuch Six Penfions of Three Thoufand Pounds each fhall have been granted to Six fuch Perfons as aforesaid, it shall not be lawful for His Majefty, His Heirs or Sucfuch ceffors, to grant any further or other Penfion in respect of any Offices as aforefaid: Provided always, that from time to time whenever and as often as any fuch Penfion fhall cease, by Death, Forfeiture or Refignation thereof refpectively of the Perfon holding the fame, it shall be lawful for His Majefty, His Heirs and Succeffors, to grant in like manner other like Penfions to any other such Persons as aforefaid, under fuch and the like Circumftances, Limitations, and Restrictions as aforefaid; so as that no more or greater Number of fuch Penfions than are allowed under the Provifions of this A&t fhall be in force at the fame time, and fo as that after the Expiration of Twelve Years no greater Number than Six fuch Penfions fhall thereafter be granted or exifting at any one and the same time, except as is in this Act excepted.

And be it further enacted, That after the Expiration of Two Years from the paffing of this Act, it fhall be lawful for His Majefty, His Heirs and Succeffors, by any Warrant under the Royal Sign Manual, counterfigned by any Three or more of the Commiffioners of the Treasury for the time being, to grant to any Perfon who shall have ferved His Majefty, His Heirs or Succeffors, for any Period not less than Five Years, in any one or more of the Offices of One of the Joint Secretaries of the Treafury, or First Secretary of the Admiralty, a Penfion during Life not exceeding One thousand five hundred Pounds per Annum; and at the Expiration of every further progreffive Period of Two Years more from the paffing of this Act, to grant in like manner another like Penfion to any other fuch Perfon as aforefaid, until, at the Expiration of Twelve Years from the paffing of this Act, Six of fuch laft mentioned Penfions fhall have been granted in the whole; and from and after fuch Six Penfions of One thousand five hundred Pounds each fhall have been granted to Six such Persons as aforefaid, it shall not be lawful for His Majefty, His Heirs or Succeffors, to grant any further or other Penfion in respect of any fuch laft mentioned Offices as aforefaid: Provided always, that from time to time, when and as often as any fuch Penfion fhall ceafe, by Death, Forfeiture or Refignation thereof refpectively of the Perfon holding the fame, it shall be lawful for His Majefty, His Heirs and Succeffors, to grant in like manner other like Penfions to any other fuch Perfons as aforefaid, under fuch and the like Circumftances, Limitations and Restrictions as aforefaid; fo as that no more or greater Numbers of fuch Penfions than are allowed under the Provifions of this Act fhall be in force at the fame time, and fo as that after the Expiration of Twelve Years no greater Number than Six fuch Pensions fhall thereafter be granted or exifting at any one and the fame Period of time.

And Whereas, in confequence of the Provifions contained cellor of the Ex-in an A&t made in the laft Seffion of Parliament, intituled An Act chequer of Ireto unite and confolidate into one Fund all the Public Revenues of land altered by • Great Britain and Ireland, and to provide for the Application thereof 56 G. 3. c. 98. to the General Service of the United Kingdom, the Duties of the • Chancellor of the Exchequer of Ireland, from and after the Fifth • Day of January laft, have become fuch as not to require that the Services of any Perfon who may hereafter fill the faid Office should be recompenfed in refpect thereof in the fame manner as heretofore; but it may happen that fome Perfon or Perfons, having filled the faid Office for fome Period lefs than Five Years before the faid Fifth Day of January, may be appointed to fome other high and efficient Office, in respect whereof a Penfion is granted by this A&;' Be it enacted, That it shall be lawful for His Majefty, His Heirs and Succeffors, under the Regulations of this Act, to grant to any Person who shall have filled the Office of Chancellor of the Exchequer of Ireland for any Period previous to the faid Fifth Day of January, and who fhall ferve His Majefty, His Heirs or Succeffors, in any other Office, in refpect whereof His Majesty is by this Act enabled to grant any Penfion lefs than Three thousand Pounds, and who shall have served and shall serve in the faid Office of Chancellor of the Exchequer of Ireland, and alfo in any one or more of the faid other Offices, not lefs than Five Years in the whole, reckoning the Period during which such Perfon shall have

filled the Office of Chancellor of the Exchequer of Ireland as Part of the faid Five Years, a Penfion to the like Amount, and in like manner and under the like Regulations in all respects, as His Majesty, His Heirs and Succeffors, are by this Act enabled to grant to any Perfon having ferved not less than Five Years in one or more of such other Offices respectively.

VI. And be it further enacted, That after the Expiration of Two Years from the paffing of this Act, it fhall be lawful for His Majefty, His Heirs and Succeffors, by any Warrant under the Royal Sign Manual, counterfigned by any Three or more of the Commiffioners of His Majefty's Treafury for the time being, to grant to any Person who fhall have ferved His Majefty, His Heirs or Succeffors, for Period not less than Ten Years in any One or more of the Offices of the Under Secretaries of State, or Clerk of the Ordnance, or Second Secretary to the Admiralty, a Pension during Life not exceeding One thousand Pounds per Annum; and at the Expiration of every further progreffive Period of Two Years more from the paffing of this Act, to grant in like manner another like Penfion to any other fuch Perfon as aforefaid, until the Expiration of Twelve Years from the paffing of this A&t, Six of fuch last mentioned Penfions fhall have been granted in the whole; and from and after fuch Six Penfions of One thoufand Pounds each fhall have been granted to Six fuch Perfons as aforefaid, it fhall not be lawful for His Majefty, His Heirs or Succeffors, to grant any further or other Pension in respect of any such last mentioned Offices as aforefaid: Provided always, that from time to time and as often as any fuch Penfion fhall cease, by Death, For、 feiture, or Refignation thereof respectively of the Perfon holding the fame, it shall be lawful for His Majefty, His Heirs and Succeffors, to grant in like manner other like Penfions to any other fuch Perfon as aforefaid, under fuch and the like Circumftances, Limitations and Restrictions as aforefaid; fo as that no more or greater Number of Penfions than are allowed under the Provifions of this Act fhall be in force at the fame time, and fo as that after the Expiration of Twelve Years no greater Number than Six fuch Penfions shall thereafter be granted or exifting at any one and the fame Period of time.

VII. Provided always, and be it enacted, That in cafe it fhall happen that any Perfon shall have ferved His Majefty, His Heirs or Succeffors, in more than One of the Claffes of Offices specified in this Act, in respect whereof His Majefty is by this Act enabled to grant any Penfion less than Three thousand Pounds, it shall be lawful for His Majefty, His Heirs and Succeffors, to grant under the Regulations of this Act to fuch Perfon any Penfion not exceeding fuch Penfion as is annexed to the highest Class of Office in which fuch Perfon may have been employed, whenever the whole Period of the Service of fuch Perfon in the feveral Offices in which he fhall have been employed fhall amount to Eight Years, although the Period of the Service of fuch Perfon in fuch highest Class fhall not have extended to the Period of Five Years; provided always, that fuch Perfon fhall have served in such highest Class for a Period of not less than Three Years.

VIII. And be it further enacted, That every Grant of any Penfion under this Act, if made to any Perfon actually holding at the Period of fuch Grant any Office entitling him to the fame, fhall not take effect during the time of the Perfon to whom fuch Pension 57 GEO. III.
