FOREWORD

This collection of statutes and related material pertaining to atomic energy has been prepared by staff of the House Armed Services Committee for the use of the committee and other committees of the Congress having jurisdiction over atomic energy matters.

Such compilations were previously prepared annually by the Joint Committee on Atomic Energy which was abolished in 1977.1 When the Joint Committee was abolished, the House and Senate reassigned the Joint Committee's responsibilities to several committees. This included the assignment of all atomic energy matters related to national security to the House and Senate Armed Services Committees. Because previous compilations of atomic energy statutes have been of great value to the committees of Congress, this updated version should continued to help serve the needs of the responsible committees.

MELVIN PRICE,
Chairman, Armed Services Committee,

U.S. House of Representatives.

1 Public Law 95-110, Sept. 20, 1977.
