PEARSON, Kansas EVERETT MCKINLEY DIRKSEN, Illinois LETTER OF TRANSMITTAL U.S. SENATE, October 27, 1966. SENATOR GEORGE A. SMATHERS, DEAR MR. CHAIRMAN: I have the honor of transmitting a report resulting from a study and hearings by the Subcommittee on Federal, State, and Community Services on the subject of "Needs for Services Revealed by Operation Medicare Alert." The subcommittee feels fortunate in having received testimony and other information from many elderly individuals who worked in Operation Medicare Alert, concerning service needs they found among the elderly whom they visited. This has made it possible for us to report those needs in this report and to make two recommendations of action needed to meet those and other needs of older Americans. In submitting this report, we hope that it will make a significant contribution to our committee and to Congress as a whole in efforts to improve the later years of our older compatriots. Sincerely, EDWARD M. KENNEDY, Chairman, Subcommittee on Federal, State, and Community Services. III |
