How To Order Publications

Publications entered in this catalog that are for sale by the Superintendent of Documents are indicated by a "for sale" statement in the text entries. Those Congressional Publications which are not for sale may be obtained from the responsible Committee, or from the House or Senate Documents Room. Entries for publications sold by National Technical Information Services include a statement to that effect. Unless otherwise indicated, publications are distributed by the issuing office which appears immediately before the publication date in each entry. Additional information necessary for procuring documents appears above or within text entries. Requests to issuing offices should contain titles and dates of publications. Do not use the L.C. card number in ordering publications.

HOW TO REMIT

Remittances for Government Printing Office sales documents should be made to the Superintendent of Documents, U.S. Government Printing Office, Washington, DC 20402, by check or money order. Publications cannot be mailed in advance of receipt of remittance. Foreign remittances should be made by International Postal Money Order, by draft on a United States or Canadian bank, or by UNESCO Coupons. All remittances should be made payable to the Superintendent of Documents.

Orders received with postage stamps, International Response Coupons, or foreign money will be returned. Persons who make frequent purchases from the Superintendent of Documents may find a deposit account convenient. Deposits of $50.00 or more are accepted against which orders may be placed without making individual remittances or first obtaining quotations. Order blanks are furnished for this purpose. After the handling of the order has been completed, it will be returned showing the publications supplied, explanations regarding those not sent, and the amount of charge.

No charge is made for postage on documents forwarded to points in United States and its possessions. There is a special handling charge on all orders mailed to other countries. The charge is one-fourth of the current selling price of publications and subscription services ordered. This is to cover the special handling required to comply with the customs and international mailing regulations.

USE STOCK NUMBERS FOR BETTER SERVICE

Because we now warehouse, store, and pick publications by their stock numbers (S/N), we can process your orders more quickly and accurately if you order by stock number and title. If you don't know the stock number, then order by title and the classification number which appears above each entry. Congressional documents and reports should be ordered by title together with the document or report number and the Congress, e.g., 94–1:H.doc.1.

LIBRARY CLASSIFICATION OF GOVERNMENT DOCUMENTS

The classification given above entries for departmental publication is that used in the Library Division of the Office of the Superintendent of Documents. The shilling mark ( separates what ordinarily would be superior or inferior numbers or letters. It is not practicable to print these numbers or letters as superiors or inferiors in the Monthly Catalog.
