API reference master thread gages are tested as required by the I specifications. The gages submitted should be marked with the API nogram and the API registration number if required. If not so marked, e information should be submitted with the gages and they will be marked. ges which meet the specifications will be marked as specified in the API andards. All thread gages must be submitted in sets of plug and ring. e name of the gage owner should be given for inclusion in the report. pies of all reports are sent to the American Petroleum Institute. ΑΡΙ andards may be obtained from the American Petroleum Institute, Corrigan wer Building, Dallas, Texas 75201. Fee is for single set of plug and

212.222.4 Master gears.

Master gears and high precision working gears can be inspected for tooth spacing, involute profile, and lead. Tests may be made on setting masters for gear testing equipment such as involute masters and lead masters. A11 such equipment should be supplied with a reference diameter for the definition of the center.

Gears, master gears, gear cutters, and index plates, from 0.125 to about 8.0 in. diameter and from about 24 to 500 teeth. The maximum overall length of the part must be less than 3 in. Suitable reference and calibration surfaces must be available to obtain the estimated accuracy of ±3" of arc. The cost of any needed adaptors will be added to the calibration cost, if made by the Bureau. Gears of 71 teeth or less.

212.223 Length and diameter measuring instruments.

Some types of length measuring instruments are accepted for These instruments include micrometer calipers, vernier calipers, plain snap gages, micrometer screws, dial micrometers, and other similar items.

212.223.1 Length and diameter calipers.

In addition to the scheduled items, plain snap gages, vernier calipers, and other similar devices may be accepted for calibration.

2.223.la Micrometer calipers-determination of errors at 10 points selected to test uniformity of graduations as well as lead errors. Also determination of planeness and parallelism errors of contact surfaces for 0 to 1 inch size only. Accuracy of 0.000 05 in.

Description

Micrometer screws-determination of errors at 10 points selected to test uniformity of graduations as well as lead errors for one inch range within 0.000 03 or greater, dependent upon the quality of the screw.

Dial micrometers-determination of errors in each one-tenth revolution of the pointer for one revolution, and each halfrevolution up to five revolutions. In the case of dial micrometers, the accuracy obtainable depends on the value of the smallest division on the dial and on the mechanical condition of the instrument as evidenced by the degree to which it will repeat its indications.

212.224 Instrument components requiring dimensional control.

Some instruments such as penetration needles, polariscope bes, and Knoop indenters contain elements which require dimensional atrol of lengths and angles.

212.225 Flatness and straightness.

Reference surfaces of flatness and straightness such as optical flats, surface plates, and straight edges can be calibrated under this schedule.

212.225.1 Optical reference planes: Flats.

Optical reference

planes are tested interferometrically, horizontally supported with test surface supported on three equally spaced pads located at 0.7 of the radius from the center. The measurement is performed along two marked diameters at 90° to each other on each surface when each diameter is parallel to two of the support pads.
