Chapter 234.

Resolve in favor of Benjamin R. Walker and Joseph C. Walker. Resolved, That the land agent be, and he is hereby authorized to convey to Benjamin R. Walker and Joseph C. Walker, lot numbered twenty-two, in township numbered four, in the fourth range, west from the east line of the state, in the county of Aroostook, now town of Island Falls, waiving all further settling duties.

Committee on military affairs, payment of expenses of.

Chapter 235.

Resolve providing for the payment of the expenses of the Committee on Military

Affairs.

Resolved, That there be paid John L. Browne, for the Committee on Military Affairs, the sum of thirty-nine dollars and seventy-five cents, the same being for expenses incurred by that committee, in visiting the Military and Naval Asylum, at Bath.

Chapter 236.

Resolve in favor of the Joint Standing Committee on Agriculture.

Resolved, That there be paid out of the state treasury, to the Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture, the sum of sixty-four dollars and thirty-nine cents, in payment of expenses of said committee in visiting the College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts, pursuant to an order of the legislature.

Resolve making appropriations for the Penobscot Tribe of Indians. Resolved, That there be paid from the state treasury, to the Agent of the Penobscot tribe of Indians, to be appropriated for the benefit of the said tribe, as follows: fortyfour hundred twenty-nine dollars and seventy cents, amount of interest on their trust fund, held by the state for the benefit of said tribe; eighteen hundred dollars for their annual annuity; eight hundred dollars for agricultural purposes; four hundred dollars for bounty on crops; three hundred dollars for salary of agent; one hundred and fifty dollars to pay competent persons, to be employed by the agent, to assist and instruct said Indians in their agricultural labors, as follows: seventy-five dollars on Oldtown and Orson islands; thirty-seven dollars and fifty cents on Hemlock, Sugar and Olamon islands; thirty-seven dollars and fifty cents on Mattanawcook island, on the same conditions as required by chapter ninety-six of the resolves of eighteen hundred and sixty-seven. The following sums appropriated, to be paid from their shore rents four hundred and fifty dollars for schools, to be used Schools, provis in employing competent teachers, viz: two hundred and fifty dollars on Oldtown island, under the supervision of the superintending school committee of Oldtown; one hundred dollars on Olamon island, under the supervision of the superintending school committee of Greenbush; one hundred dollars on Mattanawcook island, under the supervision of the superintending school committee of Lincoln; and said committees committees, are required to report, as directed in resolve approved March seventeen, eighteen hundred and sixty; and it is the duty of said agent to see that the money is fully expended for the education of the children of said tribe; one hundred dollars for salary of their priest, provided, he says mass at least Salaries. twenty-four Sundays during the year with said tribe of Indians; fifty dollars for salary of their governor; thirty dollars for salary of their lieutenant governor. All the above named sums to be paid under the direction of the governor and council.

Chapter 238.

Resolve making appropriation for the Propagation of Fish. Resolved, That the sum of twelve hundred dollars be, and hereby is appropriated, to be expended, under the direction of the commissioners of fisheries, for the propagation of fish. Approved February 7, 1877.

County of Aroostook, in favor of.

Chapter 239.

Resolve in favor of the county of Aroostook.

Resolved, That the sum of forty-two dollars be paid out of the state treasury to the treasurer of Aroostook county, it being for moneys paid out by said treasurer for repairs made on roads through township number eight, range five, and L, range two, in said county.

Chapter 240.

Resolves providing for a Seal of the State.

Resolved, That the secretary of state be directed to procure a seal of the state, conforming to the sketch and device adopted by resolve of the legislature, June nine, in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty, and that he cause the device to be engraven thereon, and that said seal, when completed, be deposited in the office of the secretary of state, and the same shall become and be the seal of the state.

Resolved, That the secretary of state be authorized to procure, for the use of the state, a press to accompany the seal. Resolved, That the sum of one hundred and fifty dollars be and hereby is appropriated, for the purpose of defraying the expenses of procuring the seal and press aforesaid.

Resolve in favor of the Plantation of Wallagrass.

Resolved, That the sum of one hundred dollars be and Wallagrass planhereby is appropriated to aid in the construction of a bridge over Wallagrass stream, in the plantation of Wallagrass, in the county of Aroostook; the same to be paid out of the state treasury, to the treasurer of Wallagrass, when the county commissioners of Aroostook shall have certified that a good and substantial bridge has been built over said stream. Approved February 7, 1877.

Chapter 243.

Resolve in favor of Saint Francis plantation.

Resolved, That the sum of fifty dollars be and hereby is st. Francis planappropriated to aid in the construction of a bridge over Hunne- tation, in favor of well brook, in the plantation of Saint Francis, in the county of Aroostook; the same to be paid out of the state treasury, to the treasurer of Saint Francis, when the county commissioners of Aroostook shall have certified that a good bridge has been built over said brook.

Chapter 244.

Resolve in favor of Roads passing through the Indian Township, in Washington county.

Resolved, That the sum of three hundred dollars be appropriated, to be expended on that part of the Houlton and Baring road which lies in the Indian township; also that the sum of two hundred dollars be appropriated, to be expended on the road leading from the Houlton and Baring road, in said Indian township, to Grand Lake stream; said sums to be expended under the supervision of the governor and council. Approved February 7, 1877.

Chapter 245.

Resolve in favor of Swedish settlers.

Resolved, That the land agent be and he is hereby authorized to convey to each Swedish settler who is not now accommodated with a sufficient number of acres of cultivable land for a farm, an additional quantity, not exceeding one lot, without the requirement of settling duties thereon, for the sum of thirty-five cents per acre, payable in road labor in one and two years.

Chapter 246.

Resolve in favor of the Joint Standing Committee on State Prison. Resolved, That the treasurer of state is hereby authorized and directed to pay to the chairman of the joint standing committee on state prison, the sum of one hundred fifty-six dollars and eighty cents, it being for expenses incurred by the committee visiting the state prison, the twenty-fifth day of January, eighteen hundred and seventy-seven.
