Resolve in favor of Joseph Francis.

Resolved, That there be paid out of the state treasury, ninety dollars, to Joseph Francis, for travel and attendance before the legislature, as representative of the Penobscot tribe of Indians. Approved January 31, 1876.

Chapter 111.

Resolve authorizing the Land Agent to convey to L. T. Manson, a lot of land in Chapman plantation.

Resolved, That the Land Agent be and he is hereby authorized to convey to L. T. Manson, lot numbered one hundred fourteen in township number eleven, range three, now Chapman plantation, waiving further settling duties.

Chapter 112.

Resolve in favor of John Allen of Maysville, county of Aroostook.

Resolved, That the Land Agent be authorized and directed to convey to John Allen of Maysville, all the title and interest of the State of Maine, in the north part of lot numbered sixty, in Lyndon, described as follows, to wit: commencing at the southeast corner of lot numbered fifty-four, thence south, seventy-four degrees and forty-five minutes east to the Aroostook river, thence down said river to the northeast corner of said north part of said lot numbered sixty, thence westerly to the northeast corner of lot fifty-four, thence southerly on the line of said lot fifty-four, to the place of beginning.

Chapter 113.

Resolve in favor of Joint Standing Committee on Education.

Resolved, That the treasurer be directed to pay to William H. Stevens the sum of seventy-five dollars, the same being the amount paid by him for expenses of said committee in their recent visit to the Normal School at Farmington, in accordance with the order of the legislature.

Resolved, That there be and hereby is appropriated the sum of Sola Coly, in aid one hundred dollars in aid of Sola Coly, member of the Penobscot tribe of Indians, on account of loss by fire, to be paid to said Sola Coly by the agent of said tribe.

Chapter 115.

Resolves in relation to Compulsory Pilotage.

WHEREAS, The exacting of compulsory pilotage fees, where no pilotage service is requested or required, is contrary to natural justice, and imposes an onerous and useless burden on the navigation interests of the State of Maine: therefore,

Resolved, That the congress of the United States is requested to prohibit by law the exaction of compulsory pilotage in the ports of the United States.

Resolved further, That copies of this resolve be sent by the Secretary of State to the senators and representatives from this state in congress.

Resolved, The state treasurer be, and is hereby authorized to procure a fire and burglar proof safe, for the use of the treasury department, at an expense not exceeding fifteen hundred dollars. Chapter 117.

Resolve refunding a part of State Tax of Perkins Plantation.

Resolved, That the treasurer of state be, and is hereby authorized and directed to refund one hundred and forty-four dollars and twenty-five cents of the state tax assessed and collected of Perkins plantation, in the county of Franklin, in the years eighteen hundred and seventy-one, two, three and four.

Chapter 118.

Resolve in favor of the Normal School at Farmington and the Normal School at Castine. Resolved, That there be and hereby is appropriated from the normal school fund, two thousand five hundred and thirty-three dollars and ninety-four cents, for the use of the western normal school at Farmington, and the eastern normal school at Castine, and the same shall be used as follows: For the western normal school at Farmington; for slating the roof of the school building, four hundred dollars; for the library, four hundred and eighteen dollars and ninety-four cents; for radiators for the school building, three hundred and sixty dollars; for a transit, two hundred and ten dollars; for a spectroscope, forty-five dollars. For the eastern normal school at Castine; for painting the school building, one hundred dollars; for boilers for the school building, two hundred dollars; for the laboratory, three hundred dollars; for grading and fencing the lot, five hundred dollars.

Chemical fire engine, appropriation for.

Chapter 119.

Resolve authorizing an appropriation for a chemical fire engine and hose. Resolved, That the sum of three hundred and thirty-seven dollars be, and the same hereby is appropriated to pay for the chemical fire engine and hose, now in possession of the state for the protection of the state-house.

Bridge at Haynesville, in favor of.

Chapter 120.

Resolve in favor of Bridge across the Mattawamkeag river in the town of Haynesville, on the military road.

Resolved, That the sum of two thousand dollars be and hereby is appropriated to build two stone abutments and one stone pier under the bridge across the Mattawamkeag river, in the town of Haynesville, on the military road, to be expended under the direction of the governor and council.

Resolve authorizing the Adjutant General to sell the Arsenal Building at Portland.

Resolved, That the adjutant general is hereby authorized to sell Arsenal building, the arsenal building in the city of Portland, to any person or persons applying therefor, for such sum as he may think is reasonable and right.

Chapter 123.

Resolve providing for the Payment of the Expenses of the Committee on Military

Affairs.

Resolved, That there be paid Charles W. Tilden, for the committee on military affairs, the sum of thirty dollars and twentyfive cents, the same being for expenses incurred by that committee in visiting the Military and Naval Orphan Asylum at Bath.

Chapter 124.

Resolve to authorize the county of Penobscot to Procure a Loan.

Resolved, That the treasurer of Penobscot county is hereby authorized to procure by loan on the faith and responsibility of said county, a sum not to exceed eight thousand dollars, to pay the indebtedness of said county incurred in the completion of the new county workshop in Bangor. The interest on said sum to be paid semi-annually, and the principal to be reimbursed by said county at such time or times as the commissioners may agree

Resolve in favor of the Joint Standing Committee on Agriculture. Resolved, That there be paid out of the state treasury to the chairman of the committee on agriculture, the sum of sixty dollars, in payment of expenses of said committee in visiting the College of Agriculture and the Mechanic Arts, pursuant to an order of the legislature.

Secretary of state authorizd to purchase reports.

Chapter 126.

Resolve authorizing the Secretary of State to purchase certain Reports.

Resolved, That the secretary of state be, and is hereby authorized to purchase, for the use of the state, of the present publishers of the Maine reports, fifty volumes each of the Maine reports, from volume four to volume nine, both inclusive, at a price, not exceeding three dollars per volume. Said reports are to be annotated in a style similar to volumes one, two and three, already purchased by the state.

Railroad commissioners, in favor of.

Chapter 127.

Resolve in favor of the Railroad Commissioners.

Resolved, That the governor and council be, and they are hereby authorized to audit the claim of the railroad commissioners against the state for services rendered upon the Portland and Oxford Central railroad, upon applications for injunctions against said road, and to pay so much of the same as they find equitably due.
