SECT. 4. Section thirteen is hereby amended by striking out CHAP. 148. the word "five," in the second line, and inserting instead the Sec. 13, amended. word 'four,' and by striking out all after the word "act," in the fifth line, and adding thereto the words, to wit: The owners of each vessel inspected and certified under this act shall pay to the inspectors the sum of five dollars, and each person licensed under this act shall pay to the inspectors the sum of two dollars for each original license, and two dollars for each renewal of the same; provided, that in cases where the master is also pilot of the vessel, he shall not be required to hold two licenses, but may act in either or both capacities under one license, such license stating on its face that he is authorized to do so. The inspectors shall account for all such sums to the governor and council, and pay the same into the state treasury. The accounts of the inspectors for compensation and expenses, under this act, shall be audited by the governor and council;' so that as amended, the whole section shall read as follows: 'SECT. 13. The inspectors shall each receive from the state the sum of four dollars per day for the time they are actually employed under this act, and shall also be paid their actual travelling expeuses incurred in performing the duties imposed upon them by this act. Chapter 198. An act to authorize the union of the Portland Athenæum and the Portland Institute and Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in Legislature assembled, as follows: Portland Athe næum and Port land Institute, &c. consolidated into a public library. SECT. 1. The Portland Athenæum and the Portland Institute and Public Library are hereby authorized and empowered to unite and consolidate so as to be one corporation, under the name and title of the Portland Institute and Public Library, with all the corporate rights and privileges heretofore conferred upon said Rights and privicorporations, but if it shall appear that there are any conflicting provisions in the charters of said respective corporations, those contained in the charter of the Portland Institute and Public Library shall prevail. leges. SECT. 2. The union and consolidation of said corporations, Consolidation, authorized by the preceding section, shall be accomplished and how perfected. perfected by the acceptance of this act by the proprietors of the Portland Athenæum and by the corporators of the Portland Institute and Public Library, and by filing in the office of the secretary of state an attested copy of the records of such acceptances. SECT. 3. Upon the acceptance and filing in the office of the secretary of state provided for in section two, all the estate and property of the Portland Athenæum shall, without further transfer, assignment or conveyance, vest in and become the property of the Portland Institute and Public Library; and each person holding at the time this act is accepted a share in the said Portland Athenæum shall be entitled to all the rights, privileges and Estate to vest in Portland Insti tute and Public Library. |
