The results, therefore, are based upon the returns submitted. Number affiliated with corporations.-Of the approximately 2,000 persons reporting, 63.1 percent stated that they were in some way affiliated with corporations, and 18.5 percent were affiliated in some way with partnerships. Thirty-nine persons, or 1.9 percent, reported that they were connected with other separate legal entities. Employment connection. Of the contributors filing reports, 4.5 percent said they were employed by the Federal Government, 1.3 percent by State governments, and 10.6 percent did not list their occupations. The approximately 2,000 persons reporting accounted for $6,221,794.63 in contributions to all political parties. They also made $309,730 in loans to all political parties. The following chart summarizes this information from the questionnaires: Affiliations of contributors who each gave $500 or more NOTE.-Number of questionnaires sent out, 3,240. Total amount of contributions to all political parties by the 2,011 persons who returned their questionnaires.. Total amount of loans to all political parties by the 2,011 persons who returned their questionnaires... Total amount of contributions to all political parties by the 1,229 persons who did not return their questionnaires.... $6, 221, 794.63 309, 730.00 1 1,662, 029. 05 Grand total, all contributions and loans by those listed as giving $500 each or more..... 28, 193, 553. 68 1 This total represents the items found on political records, and not by their personal returns. It therefore is largely the total of their contributions to national parties filing under the Corrupt Practices Act, and does not include amounts they may have given to other organizations. 2 On the basis of $6,221,794.63 given by those reporting, representing about one-half of the questionnaires sent out, it might be estimated that the grand total of contributions by those who each gave $500 or more would approximate $12,000,000. Large individual contributions. The information sought by this questionnaire was primarily for the purpose of drafting legislative recommendations for the Senate and also for the President, who had conferred with the committee chairman regarding possible remedial legislation, and regarding methods of controlling corrupt practices in political campaigns in other countries. It is deemed to be in the public interest to set forth as follows the list of persons contributing $500 or more to political organizations reporting under the Corrupt Practices Act. This report also shows the total amount contributed not only to the national organizations, but also to the State organizations and individuals.
