LESSON IX.

The Weakness and Infufficiency of Man. We could have no power at all, except it were given us from above. John xix. 11.

It is God that worketh in to do of his good pleafure. So then it is not of him him that runneth, but of mercy. Rom. ix. 16.

We are not fufficient of ourfelves to think any thing as of ourselves, but our fufficiency is of God. 2 Cor. iii. 5.

In me, that is, in my flesh, dwelleth no good thing; for to will is prefent with me, but how to perform that which is good I know not. Rom. vii. 18.

There is not a just man upon earth, that doth good, and finneth not. Eccl. vii. 20.

For in many things we offend all. Fam. iii. 2. If we fay that we have no fin, we deceive ourfelves, and the truth is not in us. 1 John i. 8. Who can fay, I have made my heart clean; I am pure from fin? Prov. xx. 19.

CHA P. III.

Concerning the Redemption of Man by JESUS CHRIST, the Son of God; together with the Father and the Holy Ghoft.

GOD

LESSON I..

God the Father bath redeemed us by his Son. OD fo loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whofoever believeth in him fhould not perifh, but have ever-. lafting life.

-For God fent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world, through him, might be faved. John iii. 16, 17.

In this was manifefted the love of God towards us, becaufe God fent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and fent his Son to be the propitiation for our fins. 1 John iv. 9, 10. The Nature of CHRIST.

LESSON II.
CHRIST is GOD.

In the beginning was the word, and the word was with God, and the word was God. John i. 1. As the Father hath life in himself, fo hath he given to the Son to have life in himself. John V. 26.

I and my Father are one. John x. 30. Believe me, that I am in the Father, and the Father in me. John xiv. 11.

Verily, he took not on him the nature of angels, but he took on him the feed of Abraham. Heb. ii. 16.

CHRIST died for our Sins.

Chrift hath redeemed us from the curfe of the -law, being made a curfe for us. Gal, iii. 13.

When we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son. Rom. v. 10. He put away fin by the facrifice of himself. Heb. ix. 26.

He hath made him to be fin for us, who knew no fin, that we might be made the Righteoufnefs of God in him. 2 Cor. v. 21.

The Lord hath laid on him the iniquity of us all. Ifa. liii. 6.

Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us. 1 John iii. 16.

He rofe again for our Juftification. Who was raised again for our juftification? Rom iv. 25.

Who is he that condemneth? It is Chrift that died, yea rather that is rifen again. Rom. viii. 34. He was declared to be the Son of God with power, by the refurrection from the dead. Rom.

i. 4. Thus it behoved Chrift to fuffer, and to rise from the dead the third day. Luke xxiv. 46.

While they beheld, he was taken up, and a cloud received him out of their fight. As i. 9.

Who is gone into Heaven, and is on the righthand of God, angels and authorities and powers being made fubject unto him. Pet. iii. 22.

Chrift is entered into Heaven itfelf, now to appear in the presence of God for us. Heb ix.

Who is even at the right-hand of God, who alfo maketh interceffion for us. Rom. viii. 34. He bare the fins of many, and made interceffion for the tranfgreffors. Ifa. liii. 12.

If any man fin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jefus Chrift the righteous, 1 John ii. 1. LESSON VI.

CHRIST fhall judge the World.

It is he which was ordained of God, to be the judge of quick and dead. As x. 42.

God hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness, by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given affurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. Acts xvii. 31.

But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no not the angels in Heaven, but my Father only. Matt. xxiv. 36.

We must all appear before the Judgmentfeat of Chrift, that every one may receive the things done in the body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad. 2 Cor..

In that day when God fhall judge the fecrets of men, by Jefus Chrift, according to his gofpel. Rom. ii. 16.

Father, Son, and Holy Ghoft, are One GOD. Though there be that are called Gods, whether in Heaven or in earth, (as there be Gods many, and Lords many):

But yet to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jefus Chrift, by whom are all things, and we by him. 1 Cor. viii. 5, 6.

In Chrift we are builded together, for an habitation of God through the fpirit. Eph. ii. 22. There are three that bear record in Heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghoft; and these three are one. 1 John V. 7.

The grace of our Lord Jefus Chrift, and the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Ghoft, be with you all. Amen. 2 Cor. xiii. 14.

And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true; and we are in him
