purpose and use

PACESETTERS IN INNOVATION, Fiscal Year 1969, presents information on Projects to Advance Creativity in Education (PACE), projects funded under the Bilingual Education Program, and projects funded under the Dropout Prevention Program, which were approved during fiscal year 1969. These demonstration programs are authorized and funded under titles III, VII, and VIII, respectively, of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965.

This volume represents a compilation of projects funded under these three programs. The projects were abstracted according to the format followed by the Program Analysis and Dissemination Branch, Bureau of Elementary and Secondary Education, and were indexed according to principles developed in the Educational Resources Information Center (ERIC), a comprehensive information system operating within the National Center for Educational Communication of the Office of Education.

PACESETTERS relies upon two basic formats - indexes and resumes to serve the searcher and the browser. The indexes, which are described in the pages of their respective sections, are keyed to the accession numbers so that every index refers the reader directly to the corresponding résumé. The résumés, which highlight the significance of each project, are arranged sequentially by the ES ACCESSION NUMBERS.

Readers are encouraged to start with the INDEXES to obtain information. The Indexes permit specific searches of the resumes. The ES ACCESSION NUMBER is the key to the use of the volume.
