1. Program: ON-THE-JOB TRAINING

2. Authorizing Legislation: Title 38 U. S. Code

3. Administering Agency: Veterans Administration

4. Description: The Veterans Administration actively seeks out employers and encourages them to have existing on-the-job programs approved for veterans, and to set up programs where they do not already exist. Once these programs are established, they provide not only immediate employment for the veteran, but also long-range career potential. While in training the veteran receives a subsistence allowance from the V.A. which decreases at six-month intervals.

3. Administering Agency: Veterans Administration

4. Description: This program is designed to provide educational opportunities to disabled veterans whose disability prevents them from following their former trade or profession. The program covers all costs of the education; including books, tuition, counseling, etc.; as well as providing a subsistence living allowance which varies according to dependency.

VETERANS ASSISTANCE CENTERS

1. Program: VETERANS ASSISTANCE CENTER

2. Authorizing Legislation: Title 38 U. S. Code

3. Administering Agency: Veterans Administration

4. Description: The United States Veterans Assistance Center (USVAC) program was established in order to bring the Veterans Administration into closer contact with returning vietnam era veterans. While the USVAC's provide all the services of a regular contact office, they specialize in trying to place unemployed veterans in good Jobs and job-training programs.

4. Description: Provides basic education and military skills training upon entering into the military service for new recruits who fall below the minimum standards of educational and skill attainment.
