Description: The United States Veterans Assistance Center (USVAC) program was established in order to bring the Veterans Administration into closer contact with returning vietnam era veterans. While the USVAC's provide all the services of a regular contact office, they specialize in trying to place unemployed veterans in good jobs and job-training programs.

4. Description: Provides basic education and military skills training upon entering into the military service for new recruits who fall below the minimum standards of educational and skill attainment.

4. Description: Provides basic education and occupational training during the last six months in military service to servicemen who do not have marketable civilian job skills. MDTA training projects are developed only where training sponsored by industry or the military is insufficient or industry sponsored training is limited because of geographic isolation of the particular establishment.

FEDERAL PRISONS INDUSTRY MANPOWER PROGRAM

1. Program: FEDERAL MANPOWER PROGRAM

2. Authorizing Legislation: 18 U.S. C. 4121-4128

3. Administering Agency: Federal Prisons Industry, Inc.

4. Description: The goal of the vocational training program is to prepare releasees for employment. Vocational training opportunities are provided for Federal prisoners in all major Federal institutions. Program covers 39 separate training areas with the largest number of completions in welding, auto repair, machine shop, auto shop repair, masonry, and key punch operations. Approximately 7 of 10 releasees have participated in a vocational training program.

4. Description: Provides disadvantaged young people, age 16 through 21, meaningful summer employment with the Federal Government.
