27. VETERANS ON-THE-JOB TRAINING

1. Program: ON-THE-JOB TRAINING

2. Authorizing Legislation: Title 38 U. S. Code

3. Administering Agency: Veterans Administration

4. Description: The Veterans Administration actively seeks out employers and encourages them to have existing on-the-job programs approved for veterans, and to set up programs where they do not already exist. Once these programs are established, they provide not only inmediate employment for the veteran, but also long-range career potential. While in training the veteran receives a subsistence allowance from the V.A. which decreases at six-month intervals.

VETERANS DISABILITY REHABILITATION

1. Program: DISABILITY REHABILITATION

3. Administering Agency: Veterans Administration

4. Description: This program is designed to provide educational opportunities to disabled veterans whose disability prevents them from following their former trade or profession. The program covers all costs of the education; including books, tuition, counseling, etc.; as well as providing a subsistence living allowance which varies according to dependency.
