According to the Alaska Population Projections published by the Alaska Department of Labor in 1986, the high series population projections estimate the following numbers of preschool, elementary, middle, high school, and post-secondary age Alaskans for the year 1990 out of a total projected population of 607,030.

For Alaskan cities and boroughs in 1987, the cost per pupil was $6,076.

There are 55 school districts in Alaska.

23 are Regional Educational Attendance Areas.

As of July 1988, there are 6,372 teachers in Alaska.
