1 Buildings, structures, and facilities computed at acquisition (known or estimated) cost, and these figures are included in the Federal realty section of this report.

Hon. WILLIAM L. DAWSON,

DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE,
Washington, September 30, 1966.

Chairman, Committee on Government Operations,
House of Representatives.

DEAR MR. CHAIRMAN: As you requested on February 4, 1966, here is a tabulation showing by States the acreages and estimated value of the public domain realty administered by the Department as of June 30,

1966.

The various land transactions and statistical adjustments made by the Department during fiscal years 1965 and 1966 resulted in an increase of 106,987 acres and $8,579,000 of value over the 1964 report. The Department adjusted previously reported valuations to reflect the land ownership changes and other adjustments made during the past 2 fiscal years. Those shown in the table are our best estimates of the fair market value of public domain land and timber in the Department's custody. These lands, of course, contain or contribute to other public values that are not readily appraisable and that are not included in this report, such as minerals, water, recreation, etc.

I hope these data will be helpful to your committee. If I can be of further assistance, please let me know.

Sincerely yours,

Enclosure.

JOSEPH M. ROBERTSON,

Assistant Secretary for Administration.
