FOOTNOTES a/ Of the 295 federally funded community mental health centers surveyed in 1972, 270 (92 percent) completed an Inventory form. Of these 270 inventories, 208 were judged reliable and usable. The number of outpatient care episodes is a duplicated count of outpatients for the reporting period. d/ A treatment session is the unit of service received by a client in the e/ Center staff includes full-time employees working 35 or more hours a week; part-time employees working less than 35 hours a week; trainees or persons in the center who receive a supervised work-learning experience as an integral part of a training program; and volunteers working regularly scheduled hours. £/ To adjust for the unequal number of hours worked by staff in differing statuses, the number of staff is converted into full-time equivalents (FTE'8). For any discipline, the number of staff is obtained by dividing by 40, the total number of hours worked by all staff in that discipline. g/ Psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and registered nurses comprise the core of mental health professionals; subprofessionals include mental health workers with less than a B.A. degree.
