Mr. Secretary, we want to welcome you on your first appearance before this new committee in your capacity as the first Secretary of the new Department of Transportation. It is our understanding that the amendment to the budget which relates to the funds for your office will be submitted to the Congress by the President today. Since we do not have the justifications supporting that request, we will not question you as to those funds at his hearing. As you know, we propose to discuss these funds with you on Monday, June 12, at which time you and the committee will be better prepared to discuss them. L At this time, I understand you have a prepared statement. The members of the committee have not all had the opportunity to read. Your statement, and since we are new and you are new in our present roles, it would be well to have you read the statement and then add whatever further comment you wish. Secretary BOYD. All right, sir. Mr. McFALL. You may proceed, Mr. Secretary. Secretary BOYD. Thank you. Mr. Chairman and members of the committee, I am not sure whether you have biographies of the statutory officials. We should provide you 'ne if we have not done so. (1)', |
