This report is divided into three sections:
1) predoctoral students, 2) postdoctoral
students, and 3) those individuals whose
training does not involve a doctorate.
Unless otherwise indicated, all stipends
and other allowances are for a twelve-
month period and are determined adminis-
tratively rather than by law. The term
"institutional allowance" refers to money
given to an institution on behalf of a
student or group of students; it is general-
ly in lieu of tuition and other required
fees.
Throughout the Department the terms "fellow-
ship" and "traineeship" are used arbitrarily.
Hence, what one agency calls a fellow would
be a trainee in another agency. No attempt
has been made to differentiate between the
various shades of meaning applied to these
