919. Midshipmen are forbidden to make requisition for articles from the store that are not needed for their personal use.

920. Midshipmen shall supply themselves from the store with such paper as may be required for written recitations, themes, etc.

921. Midshipmen having clothes requiring repairs shall obtain an order for the purpose from the senior assistant to the commandant of midshipmen or, in his absence, from the officer in charge, and shall take them to the tailor shop and explain the repairs needed. Upon obtaining them, midshipmen shall sign their names in the repair book opposite the amounts charged. Midshipmen shall remove their belongings from the tailor shop, shoe shop, and express room the same day the notice is read in the mess hall. They shall report promptly after lunch when notice is read to try on new clothing; failure to do so shall be considered an offense.

922. Complaints in regard to charges, work done, or of any other nature, shall be made in writing to the senior assistant to the commandant of midshipmen.

923. No articles of dress uniform, or overcoats, shall be received at the tailor shop for repairs later in the week than Friday noon, and not then if the work needed can not be completed by 4 p. m. Saturday.

924. Midshipmen shall not visit the store or tailor shop during study hours without permission from the officer in charge. 925. All new uniforms, caps, and mackintoshes shall be inspected by the senior assistant to the commandant of midshipmen or, in his absence, by the officer in charge.

926. Midshipmen requiring repairs to shoes shall take them to the cobbler shop in recreation hours, or in study hours by permission of the officer in charge. The cobbler will be in his shop from 10 a. m. until 2 p. m. and from 3 p. m. until 4.15 p. m. daily, except Sundays.

XXXIII. UNIFORM.

927. All articles of uniform, clothing, and equipments must be made in strict conformity with the approved regulations.

928. All articles of dress not procured from the midshipmen's store, or by permission from proper authority, are prohibited and regarded as nonregulation.

929. Dress.-Jacket, dress trousers, dress cap, and white gloves.

930. Service dress.-Blouse, service trousers, and dress cap. 931. Working dress for drill.-Canvas jumper and trousers, white hat or knit cap, as ordered, black silk neckerchief; the jumper to be worn over a jersey or sweater, as ordered by the officer in charge. White collars shall not be worn.

932. For practical work in laboratory.-Canvas jumper and trousers and knit cap; the jumper to be worn over white shirt with collar and necktie.

933. Unless otherwise ordered, the full dress shall be worn on Sunday until after lunch, when visiting officers' quarters in the evening, at dress parade, at all evening entertainments, and on special occasions.

934. The service dress shall be worn on liberty and at all other times, except as specified in the next article.

Uniform to be worn at athletic exercises:

935. Uniform (a) will be worn when the temperature is below 50°, and uniform (b) when it is above 50°.

936. Reefers may be worn with uniform (a) when desired. Sweaters, instead of jerseys, may be worn when the latter are specified in this paragraph.

937. Overcoats, reefers, sweaters, rain clothes, and overshoes shall be worn only when specially ordered.

938. Patent-leather shoes shall be worn only at hops and dancing entertainments.

939. For voluntary exercise in the gymnasium, on the ball and tennis grounds, and in boats, working suits complete and conventional athletic dress may be worn, but no loitering on the grounds in such dress shall be permitted.

940. Midshipmen not going to the exercises mentioned in the preceding paragraph shall, after drill, proceed directly to their quarters and shift into the uniform of the day.

941. The uniform shall be worn at all times in a strictly military manner. Carrying umbrellas, parasols, muffs, boas, etc., is not permitted. Study jackets or bath robes may be worn in the rooms of midshipmen's quarters after the forenoon inspection, but shall not be worn in the corridors visible from the rotunda until after call to evening studies.

942. Between the call to evening studies and morning roll call midshipmen may wear in quarters any proper dress, but they shall at no time loiter in the vicinity of the bulletin boards, in the center hall, or enter the office of the officer in charge except in the uniform prescribed for the day.

943. In order to distinguish classes, all midshipmen, except cadet officers and members of the fourth class, shall wear service stripes of navy gold lace one-eighth inch wide on the outside of each sleeve of the full-dress jacket, overcoat, and blouse. The stripes shall be between the elbow and cuff, and extend diagonally down from rear seam to front seam, the lowest stripe being 4 inches above the cuff at the front seam and 11 inches above cuff on elbow seam.

944. Midshipmen of the first class shall wear three service stripes; those of the second class, two; those of the third class, one; those of the fourth class, none.

945. Distinguished midshipmen of each class (those that attain 85 per cent of the multiple in the preceding year) shall wear an embroidered gold star on the collar of the full-dress jacket and blouse behind the anchor.

946. The sleeve ornaments of the full-dress jacket, blouse, and overcoat for cadet officers and petty officers shall be as follows:

947. The cadet commander: Five stripes of navy gold lace one-eighth of an inch wide, one-fourth of an inch apart, the lower stripe 2 inches from the lower edge of the sleeve.

948. For cadet lieutenant commander: The same, except that there shall be four stripes of gold lace.

949. For cadet lieutenants: The same, except that there shall be three stripes of gold lace.

950. For cadet junior lieutenants: The same, except that there shall be two stripes of gold lace.

951. For cadet ensigns: The same, except that there shall be one stripe of gold lace.

952. Cadet officers shall wear also a five-pointed star, embroidered in gold 1 inch in diameter, to be placed three-fourths inch above the upper stripe of lace.

.953. For brigade chief petty officer: On right sleeve an eagle and anchor, surmounted by three stars placed pyramidally, and below the anchor a chevron, consisting of three stripes of oneeighth inch gold lace.

954. For battalion chief petty officers: On right sleeve an eagle and anchor, surmounted by two stars placed horizontally, and below the anchor a chevron, consisting of three stripes of one-eighth inch gold lace.

955. For first petty officers: Same as for chief petty officers, except that there shall be one star over the eagle.

956. For first-class petty officers: Same as for first petty officers, but without the chevron.

957. For second-class petty officers: Same as for first-class petty officers, but without the star.

958. The collar ornaments for the full-dress jacket and the blouse shall be a gold anchor.

959. Midshipmen shall not mark any articles of clothing until they have been tried on and found to fit.

960. No midshipman shall sell, alter, or exchange any article of uniform or prescribed outfit, except by authority of the commandant of midshipmen.

961. All new clothing and shoes shall be inspected by the senior assistant to the commandant of midshipmen, or in his absence by the officer in charge.

962. The following-named articles of clothing and room furniture must conform strictly to the regulations in every respect, and must be obtained by midshipmen through the storekeeper of the academy, upon approved requisitions:

963. Midshipmen will not be permitted to wear or have in their possession any of the articles above named that have not been furnished by the storekeeper of the academy.
