821. Midshipmen are only granted leave to accept bona fide invitations to dinner from relatives or friends.

822. On fifth Saturdays the privileges of only the first-conduct grade will be granted.

823. Special privileges will be granted at the discretion of the commandant of midshipmen in cases which can not be comprehended in a general schedule.

824. All requests for special leave or privileges must state conduct grade. No requests will be considered unless this is stated, and its omission will be considered as an offense. All requests and statements must be sent to divisional officers by 8 a. m. of each day.

826. Midshipmen going on liberty shall report to the officer of the day at the gate both on leaving and returning, and those having special-privilege slips shall hand them to him.

827. Requests for liberty on Saturday or Sunday shall be sent to the officers in charge of divisions by 8 a. m. on Friday,

and requests will not be considered after that hour, except in special cases.

828. Requests for permission to accept invitations shall state from whom they are received, and special privileges granted to midshipmen are strictly limited to the purpose stated in the request.

829. Midshipmen who have been granted liberty shall not be excused from formation except by special permission of the commandant of midshipmen.

830. The officer in charge may excuse midshipmen who have liberty from entering the mess hall at dinner or supper. Midshipmen having approved requests to leave the academic limits shall report to the midshipman on duty at the main gate; when leaving, they shall show him the request, and upon their return they shall surrender same to him.

831. Midshipmen who attend hops shall register their names in the liberty book, noting the time of going and returning, that their absence from their rooms at taps may be accounted for. The privilege of "extended taps" does not authorize midshipmen to visit other midshipmen's rooms after regular taps.

832. Regular liberty ends at 9.30 on hop nights, as well as on any other night.

833. When a midshipman signs the hop liberty book he is understood to expressly state he is going to the hop before 9.30 that evening, and that, except by special permission, he is to remain at the hop until it ends, or to return to his quarters.

834. On hop nights midshipmen are required, except as hereinafter provided, to be in their quarters 20 minutes after the time the hop ends, extended taps to be 10 minutes thereafter.

835. Cadet officers and petty officers, first-conduct grade, and such others as may receive special permission to do so, may be allowed one hour after the hop ends to escort ladies to their residences, but this privilege is not to be interpreted to mean a short attendance at the hop and then leave the academy grounds and spend the time outside the limits. Extended taps will be 10 minutes after the expiration of the hour.

836. Midshipmen of the fourth class are prohibited from attending hops except by special permission to accompany relatives.
