Handbook for the International Treaties for the Protection of the Ozone Layer: The Vienna Convention (1985), the Montreal Protocol (1987).UNEP/Earthprint, 2003 - 398 pages The Vienna Convention for the Protection of the Ozone Layer (1985) and the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (1987) are now recognized as very successful tools to prevent a global environmental catastrophe, as a consequence of stratospheric ozone depletion. Ratified by 185 parties, the Montreal Protocol and the Vienna Convention have been amended and adjusted several times in an effort to strengthen their provisions. This Handbook incorporates all the adjustments, amendments and decisions of the parties to both treaties up to the end of 2002. In addition, it gives valuable information on the implementation of these international environmental treaties and provides details of legal and policy actions taken by the world community to protect the ozone layer. |
