PART B

The State's program priorities to expand vocational and technical education for high school students for the current year.

In accordance with the enabling legislation enacted by the Legislature in 1965, the State Board of Education has designated fourteen (14) school districts as the locations for regional technical and vocational centers. All of these centers require construction and equipment before they will be in position to serve their areas adequately. However, three of them have operated on a limited scale during the past year and it is probable that five (5) will be in operation during 1967-68.

The time when these centers can construct and equip the needed facilities is dependent to a large extent upon the funds made available by the present Legislature and succeeding sessions. The Legislature is presently in session and it is not known at this time what funds will be provided. Therefore, projections for 1967-68, particularly in respect to improved facilities, are not very firm at this point.

Replacements, expansions of existing programs, and new programs anticipated during fiscal 1968 will require the following estimated number of teachers:

is not known. The best indication is that $3,000,000 will be included for this purpose in a proposed bond issue which would require approval in a popular referendum. Should this amount become available it is anticipated that construction of at least six (6) area centers could be started involving a total of $6,000,000 including local appropriations, federal funds, and a $500,000 bond issue already approved.
