Appendix VIII: Programs Requiring an Environmental

Impact Statement

Specific programs listed in the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance ve been determined to have a significant effect on the environment d require an environmental assessment or an Environmental Impact 1atement (EIS) under Section 102(2)(C) of the National Environmen1 Policy Act of 1969 (Public Law 90-190; 42 U.S.C. 4332(2)(C)), id Executive Order 11514 (34 FR 4247) of March 4, 1970. Significant effects include actions that may have both beneficial and etrimental effects.)

In the early stages of project application, and in all cases prior to Egency decisions concerning major action, the applicant should be adised by the Federal agency from which assistance is being sought that e will be required to submit environmental impact information (to be ubmitted under agency guidelines) in connection with the proposed proect for an environmental assessment (to be made by the Federal ageny), or an Environmental Impact Statement (to be supplied by the Federal agency) concerning the proposed project.

Although the list below is not inclusive, it contains programs normally requiring either an environmental assessment or an Environmental Imact Statement. Programs requiring the submission of environmental as¡essment information by the applicant are shown with an asterisk. For EIS coordination requirements, refer to the Preapplication Coortination section of each program description.
