STATEMENT BY THE CHAIRMAN

Chairman HAYDEN. The committee will be in order.

The appropriation bill for the Department of the Interior and related agencies includes funds for all bureaus and agencies of the Department except the Bureau of Reclamation and the power marketing agencies-the Southwestern Power Administration, the Southeastern Power Administration, and the Bonneville Power Administration-which are contained in the public works bill.

Also, in the Department of the Interior appropriation bill, money is made available for the following agencies: The U.S. Forest Service, the Indian Claims Commission, the Commission of Fine Arts, the Federal Coal Mine Safety Board of Review, the Civil War Centennial Commission, the Outdoor Recreation Resources Review Commission, the Smithsonian Institution, the National Gallery of Art, the National Capital Planning Commission, the National Capital Transportation Agency, and Indian health activities of the Public Health Service. During the current fiscal year, $754,536,700 were appropriated for the Department and these related agencies. This includes funds provided in supplemental appropriations bills and $11,823,000 "indefinite appropriations of receipts."

BUDGET REQUEST FOR FISCAL YEAR 1962

The budget request for fiscal year 1962 for these bureaus and agencies amounts to $782,387,000, including $12,808,000 "indefinite appropriations of receipts" and $15 million in borrowing authorizations.

A tabulation setting forth the 1961 appropriation and the budget estimates for 1962 will be made a part of the record.
