Program Purpose: To support educational programs or services for Indian preschool, elementary, and secondary school students for whom the programs or services are not available in sufficient quantity or quality. Funding Procedure: Funds are provided through competitive discretionary grants to Indian tribes, Indian organizations, State Education Agencies (SEAs) and Local Education Agencies (LEAS). Grants may also be awarded to consortia of Indian tribes and organizations, LEAS, and higher education institutions for projects to reduce dropout rates or encourage Indian students to obtain a higher education. Funding Requirement: Twenty-five (25) priority points are given to applicants that are Indian tribes, organizations, or institutions, including those that are members of a consortia. Types of Activities Funded: Activities include preschool instruction, cultural heritage activities, dropout prevention activities, tutoring, special instruction for gifted and talented students, language instruction, counseling, leadership training and alcohol and drug abuse education. |
