1 Annual data are estimates as of July 1.

2 Distributions by age groups include Alaska beginning with July 1959 and Hawaii beginning with January 1960.

3 Beginning with Feb. 1, 1959, population totals include Alaska, which became a State on Jan. 3, 1959, and had a population of 153,000 at that time. Beginning with Sept. 1, 1959, totals also include Hawaii, which then had a population of 603,000.
