The National Conference of Standards Laboratories provides a means by which the country's standards laboratories may cooperate in generating and disseminating useful information relating to calibration techniques and to the operation of standards laboratories. NBS has therefore encouraged the organization and activities of the Conference, and will continue to provide assistance in mutually useful activities, as valuable supplements to the Bureau's work in disseminating accuracy of measurement throughout science and industry. The publication of the Proceedings of this Conference, containing papers presented at the national meeting, is one example of the Bureau's cooperation. Most of the papers presented at the meeting are published in this volume. Primary responsibility for their technical content must rest, of course, with the individual authors and their organizations.
