*$1,378,523.49 of this amount consists of loans other than those authorized by the general savings bank act of 1875. These loans have decreased in amount since January 1, 1876, $573,737.51, or more than twenty-nine per cent. The total decrease since January 1, 1875, is about $1,123,000, for nearly forty per cent.

Less than $100,000 of this class of loans are due to New York city and Brooklyn city savings banks; the remainder, nearly $1,300,000, is due to savings banks outside of these cities.
