Appendix III: Programs Requiring Notification to States of Grant-in-Aid Actions The Intergovernmental Cooperation Act of 1968 requires Federal agencies to notify the Governors, State legislatures, or their designated representatives of the purpose and amount of grants awarded to units of State/local government. Central reception points (State Central Information Reception Agencies) have been designated by the States for receiving and disseminating this information. Administrative procedures are defined in Department of the Treasury Circular No. 1082. Notification is required on all grants to units of State/local government except those specifically exempted by the Act. The list below covers most grants to units of State/local government which fall within the purview of the Circular. Not included may be some programs where nongovernmental organizations are primary recipients but occasional grants are awarded to State/local government. In these instances, notification is required.
