Page 5 - Hazardous Materials Transportation Act". DECLARATION OF POLICY SEC. 102. It is declared to be the policy of Congress in this title to improve the regulatory and enforcement authority of the Secretary of Transportation to protect the Nation adequately against the risks to life and property which are inherent in the transportation of hazardous materials in commerce.
Page 77 - radioactive materials" means any materials or combination of materials which spontaneously emit ionizing radiation. The term does not include materials in which (1) the estimated specific activity is not greater than 0.002 microcuries per gram of material; and (2> the radiation is distributed in an essentially uniform manner.
Page 7 - Such regulations shall prohibit any transportation of radioactive materials on any such aircraft unless the radioactive materials involved are intended for use in, or incident to, research, or medical diagnosis or treatment, so long as such materials as prepared for and during transportation do not pose an unreasonable hazard to health and safety.
Page 10 - Any person, or any officer, director, or partner thereof, who fails to comply with any provision of this section shall be liable to the United States for a civil penalty of not more than $10,000 for each day during which such person is in violation of this section.
